Job Summary: To participate in the design, planning, and optimization of MTN Uganda’s Intelligent Network (IN) platforms to ensure a cost-efficient, high-performance network architecture, and facilitating the timely delivery of quality products and services in alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for designing and dimensioning of the charging system as well as new products and services to support the marketing product
- Plan and design the network architecture to optimally serve the growth of the Charging network in terms of traffic, subscribers and value-added service capacity
- Carry out research and feasibility studies for new products and produce standard professional technical reports
- Design and plan the evolution of Value-Added Services, such as, but not limited to, messaging (USSD & SMS), Mobile Data, WAP, Multimedia products and other Third Party applications and services
- Produce Functional and Technical Specification documents for new products and services.
- Participate in cross functional meetings with key stakeholders involved in the development and deployment of new Value-Added Services to define best solutions for new products and services·
- Meet with vendors on new market releases and technology upgrade path to ensure quick deployment of new and innovative products/services
- Develop UNIX/shell scripts for processing statistics and other data off the IN platforms
- Interface with Marketing, business development groups for new services and product development planning
- Primary interface with vendors on technical design, deployment and maintenance planning issues for IN Systems
- Project management and tracking to ensure that products are launched within specified timelines
- Ensure IN performance statistics are accurate and appropriate forecasts for capacity planning are derived
- Develop technical and tender specification documents to be used during procurement and deployment of new products and solutions
- To act as technical lead in IN projects managed by Capital Projects
- Prepare long-term evolution plans for charging system
- Champion automation and efficiency in the department
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors’ degree from a recognized University in any of these fields; Electrical / Telecommunications Engineering
- Project management approach such as Prince II or PMBOK an added advantage
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience i
- 3 years’ experience in IN planning or operations
- 3 years’ experience in Mobile GSM Network Environment
- 3 years’ experience in UNIX shell scripting, database administration.
- Competence with Oracle/ MySql Databases.
- Proficiency in UNIX and LINUX operating systems.
- Strong shell scripting skills and Proficiency in at least 1 programming language
- Good IP networking knowledge
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of radio propagation principles and techniques
- Knowledge of the end- to -end basic telecommunications network
- Project Management Skills
- 1 year driving experience
- Ability to climb and access difficult physical terrain.
- Advanced Supervisory skills
- Flexibility and Agility regarding problem solving and working hours.
- Planning and organizational skills
- Communication/reporting skills (verbal and written)
- Drive test skills
Other Training:
- Exposure to GSM Network management processes, procedures and activities as well as experience working with Charging/Billing systems.
- Unix/ Linux System administration.

- Basic IP networking knowledge
- Quick learner
- Good Knowledge of CS Core planning techniques
- Good Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
