About US:

Cairo Bank Uganda Limited was incorporated on 11th July, 1994.  The Bank was formerly known as Cairo International Bank owned by the three leading Egyptian Banks namely; Banque Du Caire, Bank Misr and National Bank of Egypt.  In 2019, it became a fully owned subsidiary of Banque Du Caire (BDC). The shareholder consolidation in 2019 was on the back of expanding its presence across Africa whilst providing an entry point into the COMESA market.

 

Job Summary:  The Financial Controller will guide on matters relating to Financial Accounting, Analysis & Reporting on the Bank’s performance, internal financial and Operating controls, statutory and regulatory reporting, taxation and Insurance.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To control and direct the financial accounting functions of the Bank ensuring reports generated are in accordance with International Accounting Standards and local regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and manage the bank’s taxation affairs are planned and managed to optimize the bank’s position.
  • Monitor the bank’s operating base costs and highlight factors impacting effective cost management, thus contributing towards the achievement of a low-cost business environment.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with auditors, tax authorities, tax advisors and insurers.
  • The Financial controller has a key role in implementing and maintaining internal financial controls. Internal financial controls are controls which ensure reliability in financial reporting by providing reasonable assurance that proper accounting records are maintained, and the financial information used within the business or for publication is reliable.
  • Ensure that statutory accounts are drawn up following local requirements and promptly.
  • To ensure that timely and accurate financial returns are prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and local statutory requirements.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders for timely resolution of issues.
  • Review the computation and output of the IFRS 9 model
  • In charge of General Ledger administration, suspense accounts, inter-branch accounts.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures and investment activities and make recommendations to changes and procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other control functions.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the fixed asset register, ensuring all assets are capitalized and the Bank always maintains an updated register.
  • To ensure authorization procedures are followed before goods and services are ordered and before creditors or staff expenses are paid, all expenses are accounted for, and procurement procedures are clearly documented and adhered to in vendor management.
  • Liaise with Head Finance and local tax advisers to manage compliance with the local corporate, income and other tax regimes (e.g. withholding tax and VAT and minimize the burden of taxation on the Group.
  • Ensure timely submission of direct and indirect tax returns to URA by the due dates and support the effective management of the Bank’s tax affairs and the local tax liabilities.
  • Manage objective setting and annual performance appraisals relating to your direct reports.
  • In charge of accurate and timely group reporting.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting & Finance or any related area
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA or CPA are mandatory.
  • Five years of work experience preferably in a financial institution at senior management level.
  • Broad understanding of Banking Practice
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • An eye for detail and accuracy with a strong analytical capability
  • Sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and prudential regulations.
  • A superior level of computer literacy is required
