About Project:

STRETCH in School is a 3-month intervention to reduce stigmatization among school leadership and teachers. STRETCH has been developed through rigorous formative research and is now ready for feasibility testing.

 

Main Responsibilities:

Research implementation:

  • To be the field focal point for the process of cross-cultural adaptation of three stigma instruments.
  • To be the field focal point for the field-testing of STRETCH in School.
  • To document feedback, learnings and adaptations. Ethical standards such as confidentiality will be observed at all times as per the set WC standard.
  • To communicate regularly between the researcher, research team and research participants.
  • To support logistical arrangements to facilitate the implementation of the research (e.g. budget monitoring)

HR function:

  • To be the field focal point for the research assistants and the project officers
  • Analysis:
  • Contribute to the analysis through support to data entry, cleaning, coding etc.

Dissemination:

  • Support dissemination to Isingiro stakeholders, including research participants
  • Contribute to the academic dissemination through co-authoring journal articles

Representation:

  • Represent this research at Isingiro district level

Other tasks:

  • Other tasks that are identified to benefit proper research implementation and advance War Child’s research agenda

 

The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to Isingiro district if s/he is not currently a resident there.

 

 

 

Position in the organization and essential functional relations

 

Other essential working relations include; Isingiro Team Leader; Research Assistants; Education Coordinator; Finance staff; and other project staff.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the research protocol development, submission and approval
  • To identify and (co-)conduct inception meetings and talks in Isingiro with key stakeholders (OPM; colleague NGOs etc)
  • To plan and adjust activities required for the success of the project, providing feedback and based on the discussions with the researcher
  • To lead communication between the research team and study population (i.e. school leadership, teachers) and other study participants (learners, and their caregivers)
  • To establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive dialogue between stakeholders
  • To document feedback, learnings, challenges and adaptation from implementation
  • To support with preparations, mobilisation and logistics
  • To co-facilitate and participate in the study trainings and practice to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out the data collection.
  • To seek consent from the main target group (school leadership; teachers) or assent from primary school children to participate, together with consent from their caregivers.
  • To enter responses accurately (without alterations or omissions) during the interviews onto the notebooks/dairies
  • To liaise with the researcher on reporting issues to ensure understanding and to maintain accuracy.
  • To work within a team and have a professional and ethical attitude towards all the research stakeholders (upholding child safeguarding principles at all times).
  • To use feedback provided positively to improve data collection quality.
  • Is able and willing to travel in refugee settlements (transport is provided).
  • To attend and participate in meetings when needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Researcher in fulfillment of the tasks.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Degree in a relevant study, such as Education, Social sciences, Development studies, health, child protection, M&E, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in conducting surveys preferably with children and/or adults in the refugee setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience in conducting field-based research or data collection.
  • Experience in research, monitoring and evaluation is desirable.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and type in English.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken).
  • Experience working in a humanitarian context i.e., challenging environment with limited oversight
  • Experience with relevant stakeholders i.e., engaging with caregivers/parents with children.
  • Able to meet deadlines and communicate delays effectively
  • Having a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Be a child-friendly person and act in the best interest of a child
  • Having the ability to document and produce concise, informative and appropriate written documentation
  • Having excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal focus group discussion moderation and note-taking skills.
  • Having facilitation and interview skills. i.e., the ability to transcribe qualitative interviews.
  • Is eager to learn, ask questions and provide feedback on how to do things better. Shares where something did not go well to learn from it together.
