Job Summary:  The Senior Manager – IT Client Relations & Project Delivery  will lead the Demand team responsible for quickly delivering Demand solutions & projects to the various business units in MTN and run an Agile practice and build strong partnerships with business, vendor, and traditional IT leaderships firm-wide and drive the culture of Agile throughout the partner ecosystem while deeply embedding the day of work in the team this will enable agile demand management to optimize the pipeline.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Extract value from what we already have through divisional focused commercial activities such as: divisional business optimisation projects, contracts review and negotiation, capital/budget efficiency activities within division, etc.
  • Innovation – identifying and taking advantage of new business opportunities, e.g., through stimulating new business opportunities, divisional products launched, division product/process innovation, structural changes within division, etc.
  • Maintain leadership in the ICT/Digital industry by influencing state/local legislations & policies, participating in local level industry think-tanks, building & extending national B-2-B and similar relationships, etc.
  • Continuous liaison with IT units department to ensure sufficient allocation of resource for projects
  • Continuous interaction with company leadership and management to ensure timely delivery of project and products in line with company’s business plan and strategy.
  • Identify business needs / project opportunities; and / or audit existing policies, procedures, practices and technology.
  • Identify ways to streamline PPP’s and align them to international bets practice.
  • Coordinate, manage and conduct research studies (making use of libraries, archives, the Internet, museums, art institutes and other sources of information).
  • Study guidelines for projects prepared by the Infrastructure Planning Manager to outline research procedures to be followed.
  • Plan research schedule according to a variety of research methods to be used, availability and quantity of resources, and number of people
  • Define CAPEX motivation calendar in collaboration with Finance
  • Enhance/expand MTN’s role in the larger national and ecosystem through participation as a thought leader, executing local CSR projects, involvement in local industry non-ICT policy & think-tank activities etc.
  • Divisional people leadership activities: coaching, staff development and motivation through intra staff coaching, employee networks mentorship/support, own division employee engagement projects, faculty roles, inter/intra talent mentorship, etc.
  • Track Capex Commitment and capitalization for IT
  • Generic activities necessary for positive business outcomes such as: supporting recruitment, thought leadership as internal (interview/disciplinary) panel member, influencing next level leaders (e.g., at BPR) etc.

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Matrix management across Information systems and business units
  • Working with multiple vendors and business units.
  • Leads the unit and direct the teams to work in a matrix mode accomplishing holistic solutions and blue prints
  • Ensures that Coaching / mentoring programs and personal development plans are in place for the team
  • Ensure that the architecture is relevant to the needs of the company, is accepted, implemented and adhered to throughout the Company.
  • Ensure that operations function in accordance with the agreed business plan
  • Ensure that needs driven research and development are initiated pro-actively
  • Ensure that relevant stakeholders are involved to address operational constraints.
  • Ensure that systems are in place to monitor resource utilization

Creativities (improvement/innovation inherent)

  • Innovations to radically transform the IT and data architecture to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Creation of the overall information architecture of the company aligned to business strategy.

Vulnerabilities (control span)

  • Work within the LCO model
  • Dependencies on other IS departments and business units to deliver their Demands and implement them




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the MTN Uganda Senior Manager – IT Client Relations & Project Delivery job must hold a first degree in any discipline preferably Computer Science or equivalent
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.

Work Experience        

  • 10 years’ work experience covering Agile and Demand organization especially the business/technology planning.
  • Manager track record of 5 years or more; with at least 3 years in relevant sector/ industry
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies advantageous.
  • Ideally qualified in ITIL and in a project management methodology
  • 4-5 years’ experience in project management of larger IT projects.
  • Previous experience in release management and ideally some exposure to IT operations management and good knowledge of IT governance processes.
  • Experience with Scrum and other Agile methodologies
  • Experience with designing creative, quality consumer products, as well as enabling business capability and objectives through technology.
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter who is self-motivated, but also a team player with a professional presence and 3+ years’ experience leading technology delivery teams
  • Demonstrates thought leadership and can influence at all levels in the organization
  • Must have a well-rounded user-centered product portfolio that spans retail banking, e- commerce and telecoms.
  • Experience with conducting user research, usability testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping and analytics
  • Knowledge of Lead and Agile software development processes and 3 years minimum experience playing the Agile Coach and Scrum Master role for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory across distributed teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Experienced in servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment.
  • Experienced burndown techniques, burn chart analysis, and other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD. Excellent communication and coaching skills.
