About US:

Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute (UWRTI) is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, established by Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute Act, 2016. The Institute is mandated to: “Undertake research and training services for sustainable conservation and management of Uganda’s wildlife resources.’’

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the development and operationalization of the institute research policy (s)
  • Leads the development, review and implementation of research agenda of the institute.
  • Leads the development of bankable research project proposals
  • Leads the development of relevant research for wildlife training and conservation
  • Provides consultancy for wildlife research and conservation
  • Supports the mobilization of research funding
  • Builds partnerships with other research institutions
  • Leads the dissemination of research findings
  • Leads collaborative efforts for the uptake of research innovations
  • Supports capacity building of staff in wildlife research
  • Leads the development and implementation of research quality assurance frame work for the institute
  • Establish and maintain the data base on wildlife research in Uganda
  • Coordinates the development of departmental plans, budgets and reports
  • Supervises and appraise staff in the department




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The person eligible for appointment should possess the following attributes:
  • An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Health and Management or related fields from recognized institutions.
  • Master of Science in the above-mentioned fields from recognized Institution.
  • PhD in the in the above-mentioned fields from a recognised Institution.
  • At least 7 relevant peer reviewed publications
  • Be at least of the rank of Principal/Senior Officer level or its equivalent at the time of application;
  • Six years of Managerial ability in Higher Education or Research Institution with at least track record of having served as Head of academic Department or Research Project Manager;
  • Be a citizen of Uganda with a valid national identity card
  • Evidence of contribution to the community
  • Not above 55 Years
  • Be a citizen of Uganda with a valid national identity card
