Job Summary:   The Manager: Physical Security will plan, manage and monitor the implementation of security management activities and processes in order to deliver on approved operational plans in an effective and efficient manner.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Threat and Vulnerability Assessment – The ability to Identify, Analyze, Interpret and record physical security threats and vulnerabilities in order to pro-actively mitigates Absa’s risk exposure to Violent Crime
  • Integrity Management – The ability to validate as to whether Security Service Providers conform to our Vetting Requirements, measured against well-defined processes.
  • Physical Security Engineering Management: Provides an E2E engineering framework for the management of technology where representatives from the different business streams form part of this process to ensure visibility and management of expectations, and to ensure all requirements are managed. In addition, to investigate new technologies that address new needs and replace outdated technologies.
  • Oversee the maintenance all security systems (e.g., censors, intruder alarms, fire equipment etc) and ensure they are all in working order
  • Review security requirements and ensure compliance
  • Continuously assess and review the physical security of staff and assets in all bank offices/residences and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Train and educate members of staff on security consciousness and related matters
  • Identify weaknesses in the protection and security of staff and assets and take necessary remedial actions
  • Implement all security requirements for bank premises such as periodic fire drills,
  • Negotiate and maintain contracts for security services such as guards’ services, alarms etc.
  • Represent the bank in local external organizations on security issues
  • Review drawings of new premises and assess levels of security and recommend improvements
  • Ensure that all Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) are completed in a timely and proficient manner for premises, hotels, residences and events.
  • Track, follow-up and close outstanding recommendations as per SRA remedial action data.
  • Manage the maintenance schedule for the security systems across the premises network, ensuring that the equipment has continuous functionality and resolve issues within the shortest period possible.
  • Ensure that all security incidents are accurately reported, investigated, tracked and documented to identify and address all security risks and /or failures.
  • Identify and source national and regional crime statistics and ensure these are reported where the statistic is an attack on a competitor.
  • Manage all immediate action response to rapid escalation security operations.
  • Produce travel advisories and the coordination and management of travel restrictions.
  • Own audit findings raised by either internal or external auditors/assurance and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain a security risk register where the business has chosen not to implement recommended actions or standards on the basis of a risk assessment, and has chosen to retain the risk with the agreement of relevant stakeholders.
  • Requirements Development and Management – Validate requirements to ensure the resulting solution will perform as intended in the target security environment.
  • Ensuring Quality: This implies quality assurance of security-related processes, management of requirements (of all stakeholders), and verification and validation of all requirements to ensure client approval;
  • Planning and Managing Work: It is critical to perform work estimation, planning and monitoring in control in an environment that is cost sensitive.
  • Supporting Implementation: For all services, across their life cycles, it is critical to perform continued causal analysis and resolution, configuration management, and decision analysis and resolution. In case of Absa, these are critical functions that flow over to operations as well as development of service systems;
  • Improving Performance: At a high level, process performance must be measured and managed, new process assets developed on a continuous basis, and processes managed by using measured data.

Fraud Prevention & Investigation

  • Assess progress on fraud cases and other such security matters being handled by subordinates
  • Act as principal link between the Bank and all governmental security services and private security companies and organisations thus ensuring the security of all spheres of the Bank’s operations
  • Maintain close and satisfactory relationships with security companies and law enforcement agents i.e. the police on fraud cases
  • Attend court proceedings on fraud cases on behalf of the bank
  • Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of bank procedures/ controls and recommend appropriate actions to safeguard customers funds
  • Laisse with counterparts in other banks and security companies
  • Manage the vetting of all new account opening applications and laisse with the Registrar of Companies for screening
  • Contribute to formulation of security policies both locally and regionally





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The applicant for the ABSA Bank job must hold relevant Higher Diplomas: Law, Military Science and Security (Required)
