Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out Claims Management for the Subsidiary and manage communication with Insurance companies and reinsurance brokers;
  • Handle and review technical accounts claims supporting documentation and ensure proper validation;
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance of all relevant documentation;
  • Provide market information, statistics, and reports as and when required;
  • Proactively manage technical accounts claims, investing the necessary level of involvement = required for each claim depending on, inter alia, the nature, category, type and quantum of the claim;
  • Manage claims portfolio(s) to optimize performance;
  • Advise reinsurers of large losses and timely recovery of those losses over and above our deductibles
  • Develop an understanding of marketing and underwriting strategies for your business area and contribute to business development and renewal opportunities by attending client meetings to explain Kenya Re’s claims philosophy and approach to claims handling and discussing any claims issues;
  • Review the reconciliation of cedant and broker accounts and follow up outstanding amounts due from them while also ensuring timely remittance of amounts due to them;
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance of all relevant documentation;
  • Provide market information, statistics and reports as and when required;
  • Preparation of management reports;
  • Head sub-unit in claims department;
  • Retro debt collection follow-up;
  • Updating claims processes manual and policy;
  • Carrying out administration of claims resulting from such transactions;
  • Preparing retrocession accounts;
  • Preparing quarterly statements of accounts;
  • Booking Facultative and Treaty statement of accounts;
  • Reconciliation of statement of accounts;
  • Drafting treaties in line with the Corporation’s policy and call for returns from ceding companies;
  • Ensuring accurate input of data and records for allocated markets in respect of premiums, claims etc.;
  • Ensuring appropriate maintenance of all relevant documentation;
  • Providing market information, statistics and reports as and when required;
  • Follow up on retrocession recoveries;
  • Follow up on debt collections.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Applicants should be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in insurance or a business related field.
  • The person(s) should be fully qualified insurance professionals with ACII or FCII qualifications or their equivalent and hold membership in recognized insurance professional bodies;
  • Applicants should be fluent in both spoken and written languages;
  • At least five years of relevant experience in reinsurance / insurance.
