About US:

Private sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) is Uganda’s apex body for the private sector made up of 230 Business Associations, Corporate bodies and the major Public Sector Agencies that support private sector growth. Since its founding in 1995, PSFU has served as a focal point for private sector advocacy as well as capacity building and continues to sustain a positive dialogue with Government on behalf of the private sector. PSFU is also Government’s implementation partner for several projects and programmes aimed at strengthening the private sector as an engine of economic growth in Uganda.

 

About World Bank Grant:

Government of the Republic of Uganda has been allocated grant funds (the “Grant”) from the World Bank which are administered by the International Development Association (IDA) (the “Bank”) towards implementation of the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payments for Project Implementation Support services. The Project Development Objective is to increase access to entrepreneurial services that enable women entrepreneurs to grow their enterprises in targeted locations, including host and refugee communities. Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) is implementing the Project jointly with Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development through a Project Coordination Unit (PCU).

 

Job Summary:  The objective of the Accounts Assistant role is to support the Accounts coordination unit in day-to-day finance function activities, administrative support by performing duties of budget execution, processing accounting transactions, providing basic bookkeeping and participating in preparation of periodic financial reports.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow-up payment acknowledgement and obtain receipts from service providers.
  • Maintenance of accounting records pertaining to main cash book and petty cash.
  • Filing of Accounts records/documents including payment vouchers, receipts and bank records.
  • Be the project agent with Centenary Bank, deliver and collect correspondence financial and accounts records from Centenary Bank e.g bank statements etc and related Agencies.
  • Provide weekly status of outstanding payments, bank account balances with Centenary Bank, weekly bank cash banking & deposits.
  • Manage stock and petty cash on a daily basis and ensure proper accountability and replenishment to support immediate project activities.
  • Facilitate project component to make payments, for workshops and seminars.
  • Prepare and analyze advance schedules to preparing for retirement of advances and arrange accountability status updates to components.
  • Keep advance register updated and prepare monthly report on outstanding advances.
  • Prepare payments transactions authorized by the Project Coordinator GROW- PSFU and extract payment vouchers and attach supporting documents and maintain a proper filing system for the project. Process payment requests and check the expenditures to ensure all requisite attachments are attached.
  • Support the Accountant in matters of stock taking of project inventory and assets.
  • Assist in the preparation of bank reconciliations.
  • Mileage booking into the system and ensuring the vehicle log books are updated all times.

  • Well maintained filling system of payment documentation.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of 2nd class upper) in Commerce, Business Administration (Accounting Option) or related discipline;
  • One year of experience in Private Sector Organisation or multilateral organisation
  • Should have strong analytical skills, high level of proficiency in the use of computer applications especially spreadsheets and database, computerized accounting systems and software e.g Sun system, SAP, Navision, Tally, QuickBooks, IFMS etc.
  • A professional qualification in accounting course e.g CPA or ACCA Level 1 will be an added advantage.
  • Art of innovation and ability to work with self-initiative.
  • Good communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Preferably age limit 24-35 years.
