Job Title:  Metering Technician (Fresher Jobs)

Organisation: Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to:  Metering Engineer

 

About US:

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution network and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd’s investment and distribution of power in Nine Service Territories covering over 74 Political Districts; it operates the Pole Treatment Plant at Lugogo, and also executes some Rural Electrification Schemes on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

 

Job Summary:  The Metering Technician will execute day to day energy meters technical activities including meter testing, programming, installation, commissioning and field audit as per the set procedures and policy guidelines.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acceptance testing of new energy meters.
  • Test and Program recovered meters from the field.
  • Programming of new and in-service single-phase, three phase, kVA-LV and HT meters as per testing plan and procedures.
  • Make technical test reports for meter tests carried out in the workshop and in the field.
  • Provide legal support pertaining to meter test lab results.
  • Ensure all meter testing activities are conducted in a safe environment.
  • Use adopted standards and specifications and in liaison with the supervisor.
  • Install and commission HT meter installations and associated accessories for bulk supply points and customer installations in addition to regular and ad hock auditing thereof.
  • Implement procedures for installation of metering equipment on the distribution network.
  • Carry out energy meter audits all of all metering installations and submit audit reports.
  • Carry out routine accuracy tests of meters in the field.
  • Verify data for all meters returned to UEDCL stores and ensure they are disposed of in accordance with the meter disposal process.
  • Provided general support duties in the section including general tidiness of the workshop, documentation and storage and accountability for equipment and materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time for the company.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering (ODEE)
  • At least one year of post-qualification experience in the engineering field
  • Ability to work confidently with MS Office packages
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Communication (oral and written) Skills
  • Integrity
  • Tight personal organization and processes control abilities.
  • Team work and strategic business understanding.
  • Communication abilities for presenting results, plans and strategies; as well as periodic reporting of performance
  • Results oriented
  • Highly Organized
  • Ability to drive both Manual and Auto vehicles
