About US:

Action for Health Uganda (A4HU) is a youth empowerment organization dedicated to mainstream young peoples’ engagement in socio-economic development and promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and rights (SRHR). A4HU was registered in October 2017 as a new entity to take over the operations of DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung) in Uganda. For the past 18 years DSW has supported the implementation of a portfolio of projects to improve sexual and reproductive health of young people in Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The IT Officer will maintain, develop, and manage the organisation’s information technology systems and infrastructure. The Officer will ensure the secure and efficient operation of the organisation’s computer systems, servers, network devices, and software applications.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, upgrade, maintain and administer IT systems, operating systems and Active Directory objects and security policies.
  • Obtain, update, and maintain documentation and licenses for all systems acquired by the organisation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve IT issues promptly.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies and roll out new applications.
  • Install, configure, and maintain IP addresses, network segments, LANS, WANS, and the Internet.
  • Maintain network infrastructure and security systems, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Provide support for the organisation’s website and social media platforms.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Provide support for the organisation’s website and social media platforms.
  • Provide staff training and support on using technology systems and software.
  • Identify and recommend new technology solutions to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts for IT-related services and products.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in the IT field.
  • To install and ensure optimal operations of all ICT hardware, virtual systems, and networks, manage hardware inventory, and monitor warranty and insurance.
  • Operationalize data management, documentation and archiving.
  • Investigate and monitor hardware and software problems and ensure necessary maintenance and repair when needed.
  • Setting up new user systems, including user accounts and profiles.
  • Ensuring the systems are up, running and backed up while performing periodic or event-driven systems performance optimisation.
  • Provide the first point of IT Support for staff, respond to callouts and escalate issues as required, including managing the IT Service/Help Desk.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in IT support or a related field.
  • Excellent technical skills and knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, network devices, and security systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
