Job Summary:  The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and benefit from rich interaction with digital, innovation, strategic foresight, development, data science and behavioural science experts. In addition, the intern will be exposed to various visual representations of data, from simple static charts to interactive dashboards with geographic information systems(GIS) components  and visualisation libraries and software like with D3.js, Crossfilter/dc.js, Leaflet.js, Processing/P5.js, CartoDB or Mapbox  The internship is also an excellent opportunity to learn and work with different data sources to support the SDGs Agenda 2030 and understand how one could utilize data visualization inside large international organizations like the UN system.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in data exploration through visualizations
  • Assist in generating data visuals for reports and presentations
  • Offer support in the drafting of wireframes for statistic and interactive dashboards
  • Support preparing materials for capacity building and knowledge dissemination by the office with partners
  • Support the technical team in developing the initial visualization prototypes using tools like data wrapper, high charts or tableau.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in computer science, Electrical engineering, Mathematics, Statistics.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, Electrical engineering, Mathematics, Statistics.
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

  • Be fluent in English and the working language of the duty station
  • Have prior experience in computer programming especially in the python or Julias;
  • Have knowledge of computer programming especially in the python or Julia
  • Have experience or familiarity of data visualisation tools or libraries like matplotlib, data wrapper, tableau and Power BI
  • Have good command in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as handling web-based applications
