Job Summary:  The HR Business Partner will mainly drive the achievement of business objectives through the implementation of the HR Strategy, Policies and Practices to deliver on the bank’s overall business agenda and targets. The role is responsible for employee recruitment, onboarding, talent development, succession planning, talent retention, employee relations and staff welfare for the assigned business units.  This role provides HR advisory support to the line managers and Heads of department assigned.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify the best source of candidates and tap into the market where need be.
  • Ensure proper orientation and induction of new staff is carried and that all new joiners have been properly integrated into the organization and their roles.
  • Ensure that all staff have signed off job descriptions and have aligned on the Key Performance Indicators with their respective line managers.
  • Advise Business Units on the exit trends and propose measures for talent retention in collaboration with line managers within units assigned.
  • Ensure issues arising from exit interviews are addressed with the respective line managers on a timely basis and issues resolved.
  • Drive organization implementation/change initiatives in line with business unit strategies through review and implementation of fit for purpose structures after talent review sessions and during re-organization of departments within the respective units.
  • Participate in HR projects –i.e., Employee Engagement, Talent Reviews, Job Evaluation exercise in collaboration with the Consultants/line management and as guided by Group General Manager-HR
  • Supports Line managers in identifying key, high \performing and high potential staff and collaborates with line management to develop value proposition initiatives to close talent gaps and plans for units assigned. Plans and discusses with staff on career plans in liaison with the line manager.
  • Manage and coordinates the performance appraisal process (quarterly check-Ins) talent reviews, succession planning, high-potential assessment, and feedback mechanism with staff/line management for units assigned.
  • Support Heads of department and line managers to develop succession plans and in liaison with Learning & Development team/line management to retain key talent, identify talent gaps, and recommend initiatives to close talent gaps, i.e., job shadowing, Secondments.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to line managers on reward and recognition policy guidelines.
  • Coordinate the performance moderation process by advising the assigned business unit leadership on the moderation principles and guiding the conversations in the moderation meetings at departmental level.
  • Hold discussions with units assigned on outcome of issues arising during employee engagement discussion and draw action plans towards resolving issues arising thereof.
  • Visit departments/Branches, participate in departmental meetings to support and advice on Human Resources challenges and issues facing the business units.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in HRM or related discipline.
  • A relevant post graduate degree/ Professional Qualifications HRM is desirable.
  • At least five years of experience in Personnel Administration/Development.
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience of HR operations.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to appreciate the systematic impact of various policies, practices, issues, and solutions on HR.
  • Good knowledge of the Banking industry and appreciation of its operations.
  • In-depth understanding of the Ugandan society, cultural diversity and regional nuances.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ugandan labour and employment legislation.
