About US:

The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) was established under section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, (Chap213) Laws of Uganda, 2000 (Insurance Act) which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of supervisor or regulator.

 

Job Summary:  The Research Officer will undertake extensive research on initiatives and issues relevant to the organization, compile and analyse data.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and surveys on insurance industry performance and trends.
  • Implement monitoring systems for tracking fundamental economic, financial and developments in the insurance industry.
  • Collect, verify, analyse and interpret data/information on insurance business and the industry as a whole.
  • Take stock of new developments, benchmark good practices and make them available to the supervisors.
  • Prepare periodical and annual reports as may be required from time to time.
  • Make proposals aimed at promoting market development.
  • Carry out any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Timely study reports.
  • Timely response on research inquiries.
  • Up-to-date data bank.
  • Timely internal reports
  • Market development Proposals.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s (honors) degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, Development studies or its equivalent from a recognized higher institution of learning.

  • Report writing skills
  • Knowledge of insurance
