Uganda Development Trust (UDET) is a consulting firm that provides Business Development Services {EDS} directly to grassroots community groups and SMEs engaged in businesses that are aimed at improving the living economic conditions of marginalized people, creating gainful employment and sustainable market outlets for smallholder farmers in Uganda. Currently, UDET is the Strategic Partner of the United
States African Development Foundation [USADF] in Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The Finance Assistant will take charge of the day-to-day transactions’ processing; support the production of monthly and annual financial reports; participate in the end of year audits, and related administrative processes.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keep proper books of accounts in accordance with the acceptable accounting standards and organization’s finance policy.
  • Maintain cash and cash books and update the Finance Officer on daily cash position.
  • Prepare payroll, salary payments, timely filing of statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF) returns with the respective organs.
  • Keep and maintain petty cash together with related documentation as required by the finance policy
  • Filing vouchers and any other financial documents as well as other administration correspondences.
  • Follow up on accountability of travel advances to staff and fuel card float.
  • Carry out monthly bank reconciliations and other related subsidiary ledger records.
  • Participate in monitoring of donor funded projects.
  • Supervise all drivers to ensure that they are well-coordinated and deployed.
  • Prepare grantee disbursement requests
  • Maintain and monitor organization’s assets which include, but not limited to, vehicles, office equipment, building, among others

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies with an accounting option and/or stage 2 of a professional course such as CPA or ACCA
  • Three years of working experience in the relevant field in a reputable organization, preferably development agencies
  • Knowledge of automated accounting programs; particularly use of Pastel Accounting software
  • Skills in use of Microsoft Excel and Word are desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide spectrum of stakeholders
  • Good command of the written and spoken English language
