About the Internship

The intern will utilize the 6 months with us to learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school or previous roles and apply them in an entrepreneurial, non-profit setting. The intern will gain a better understanding of the role that operations plays in non-profit management and be better prepared to work in project and systems management, both in the non-profit sector and beyond. In addition to working across both our program and operations team, the intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with global program and operations staff in all GHC country offices and participate in regular team and staff meetings.

 

The intern will be highly detail-oriented, creative problem-solver who will work closely with members of the Uganda Country Team to assist with a range of projects involved in supporting GHC’s fellowship program. The different areas that comprise GHC’s operations include fellowship admissions; the health, safety, and security of our fellows and staff; GHC’s organizational structure and finances; and, compliance with employment, tax, and other laws in our countries of operation.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Fellow Recruitment and Selection

  • Assist with fellow recruitment, by coordinating logistics related to confirming interview slots and communicating the same to candidates
  • Support to communicate directly with applicants and fellows throughout the application process
  • Assist with the management of the online application system and work within our application database
  • Actively contribute to the development of training and materials for application reviewers
  • Participate in the application review process

Program Logistical Support

  • In consultation with the Program and Operations Coordinator, arrange travel and calendar scheduling for site visits and fellow check-in calls
  • Research and recommend venues for retreat events, partner meetings, and other program-related events as needed
  • Support logistical coordination of fellow workshops and retreats

Office Financial Support

  • Completing and submitting the weekly cash withdrawal and payments to the Program and Operations Coordinator
  • Completing monthly office expense reports and submitting the same to the Program and Operations Coordinator
  • Ensuring expenses have all the necessary supporting documentation and checking that documentation is consistent with expectations.
  • Organizing and scanning monthly expense receipts and keeping them in appropriate folders
  • Completing the Uganda office funds request and submitting it to the Program and Operations Coordinator
  • Assist with other aspects of the Operations team, as necessary, like financial record-keeping and general administrative support

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • A demonstrated strong work ethic
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills with a knack for sustaining and/or improving systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office, particularly Excel
  • A good track record of taking initiative
  • An innovative mindset—able to design systems and think outside the box
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for taking on a variety of projects as they arise
  • Passion for non-profit management, social justice, and global health
