About US:

The Security Council, by its resolution 1990 PDF Document of 27 June 2011, responded to the urgent situation in Sudan’s Abyei region by establishing the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The Security Council was deeply concerned by the violence, escalating tensions and population displacement. The operation will monitor the flashpoint border between north and south, and is authorized to use force in protecting civilians and humanitarian workers in Abyei. UNISFA’s establishment came after the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) reached an agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to demilitarize Abyei and let Ethiopian troops to monitor the area.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Within the delegated authority, the Movcon Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Receives and registers cargo movement requests for air/ground transportation.
  • Receives Purchase Orders from Procurement Section, coordinates transportation and follows up from delivery to destination.
  • Coordinate with the TM & IDC Cell, the goods vendor / freight forwarder to confirm the delivery status and to review shipment documents to ensure that goods are delivered according to the agreed terms and conditions.
  • Ensure proper and safe storage of inbound/outbound cargo, proper packing and marking of cargo items, including dangerous goods.
  • Ensure cargo is weighted, measured, labeled, manifested and aviation safety regulations are followed.
  • Collect, check and update information (e.g. ETA, quantities, etc.) and documents (e.g. AWB, BoL, customs clearance, etc.), provided by the goods vendor and the freight forwarder.
  • Track and trace all deliveries and update the TM & Inbound Delivery Cell with necessary information and shipment documents of incoming shipments
  • Addresses issues that may delay and/or disrupt the delivery of goods and seek for remedial solutions with all parties concerned.
  • Confirms delivery dates and quantities received and provide delivery confirmation documents
  • Coordinate the consolidation of incoming freights in order to effectively plan, execute and monitor delivery to Entebbe and transfer to the mission area.
  • Supervise and assist in the optimization of routes and mode of transportation.
  • Coordinate and ensure that end-to-end visibility of freight movement by providing info on freight delivered to Entebbe and transferred to the mission area.
  • Improve the support of regulatory compliance with participating entities (e.g. by ensuring Freight Forwarders adhere to policies established by the UNESB, the URA, etc.).
  • Liaise and coordinate customs, transport and MOVCON activities related to inbound shipments with vendors, customs and all other relevant local and national authorities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei Movement Control Assistant must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in operations and administration in the areas of supply chain, logistics or cargo movement is required.
  • A valid national driving license is required.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Required.
  • Languages: fluency in oral and written English is required.
