About US:

On 20th September 2022, the Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Uganda following confirmation of a case in Mubende District. Since then, the disease has spread to the districts of Kassanda, Bunyangabu, Kagadi, Kyegegwa and Kampala Metropolitan. As part of the country support to the Surveillance, active case finding, contact tracing and investigation of cases, the Ministry of Health with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) is to deploy Epidemiologists at sub-national level to rapidly support Contact tracing, Case Investigation, Active Case Search and Mortality Surveillance.

 

Job Summary:   To expedite the process, World Alliance for Lung and Intensive Care Medicine in Uganda (WALIMU) has been contracted by WHO to facilitate the recruitment process. The Ministry of Health therefore, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be employed as Epidemiologists on Six (06) months Non- gratuitable Local Contract Terms across the country.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Contact Tracing
  • Case investigation
  • Active Case Search
  • Mortality Surveillance
  • Support the determination of research studies to be conducted and methodology to be followed for collecting epidemiologic data; analyzing data and recommendation of public health interventions, prevention, and control measures to deal with trends or findings.
  • Support the investigation, identification, and analysis of incidence, prevalence, trends, and causes of injuries or communicable, chronic, environmentally induced diseases, and health emergencies.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate disease and surveillance systems; advise stakeholders of important incidence and/or prevalence changes within reporting areas.
  • Communicate with health care providers, social service agencies, schools, local government officials, and others concerning disease, prevention, and control.
  • Support the investigation of disease clusters using epidemiologic methods which include gathering information and/or specimens.
  • Prepare final investigation reports, statistical analyses, and summaries on completed epidemiological studies/evaluations.
  • Train district health workers on epidemic preparedness and control with disease surveillance.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Post Graduate Training in Epidemiology, Clinical Epidemiology or Masters in Public Health with Medical background, or Veterinary or Environmental Health from recognized institution.
  • Should have good experience of working with and controlling epidemics, complex emergencies and health disaster mitigation gained over a period of at least three (3) years.
  • Applicants should be registered with the requisite regulatory bodies such as the Uganda Medical and Practitioners Council, the Nursing Council among others.
