Emata is an award-winning venture using data science and alternative credit scoring to unlock Africa’s vast agricultural potential through financing. We are on a mission to provide affordable and digital financial products to farmers across East Africa. The company was started in 2020 and is the first digital lender for farmers in Uganda. We use cutting-edge technology to offer loans up to 5x more affordable than current alternatives and empower farmers to invest in their farms.

 

Emata is a spin-off of, and shares offices with, the SaaS company Laboremus Uganda. It is out of Laboremus’ expertise from working with financial technology in Uganda and abroad that the idea of Emata was born.

 

Job Summary:  Do you have a keen interest in fintech? Are you a big picture thinker that can spot patterns? We are looking for a person who can drive technology development for one of Uganda’s most exciting fintechs. Is that person you? Read on!

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with our product manager to coordinate the research, design, implementation and testing of new features and products
  • Working closely with our engineering lead to prioritize, define and document the development of new features and products for execution
  • Ensuring that the execution of our new features and product is on track and ready for our next release
  • Contributing to defining product enhancements and strategy
  • Being on top of task and resource management and spot (potential) blockers and risks
  • Coordinating and performing user and functional testing on newly developed features.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should hold a degree, preferably in a STEM field from an accredited university (Preferable, but not mandatory)
  • Experience in technology, business, and/or design ideally in a software setting
  • An understanding of agile software development methodologies
  • Big picture thinker that can spot patterns among ambiguity
  • Excellent ability to observe users
  • Strong communication skills
  • Well developed organizational skills
  • A powerful growth mindset and fast learner
