About US:

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the RMCU on risk management matters, helping them in discharging their responsibilities and accountabilities to manage risks and ensure compliance with UNHCR policies and procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between FRRM and the risk management unit
  • Maintain Risk Registry by supporting field colleagues in required documents/contact etc.
  • Support RMCU staff in organizing and facilitating capacity building workshops
  • Maintain RM network in Uganda, including information sharing, technical training, membership etc.
  • Maintain/file key documentation within RMCU.
  • Ensure all the RMCU events are implemented according to the agreed activities plan and perform all administrative duties in support of the unit including organizing workshops, meetings and travel documentation.
  • Supporting and promoting the use of good risk management tools and approaches.
  • Support RMO on the secretariat work for risk coordination forums, such as the Risk Advisory Group.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Senior FRRM Assistant job placement must hold a High School Diploma or Bachelor or equivalent in Business Administration, International Affairs, Political Science, Finance, Audit, Risk Management or other relevant field is required.
  • One year of experience in positions involving, amongst other things, responsibilities relating to risk management, compliance or quality of results.
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, objectivity, impartiality and fairness.
  • Excellent judgement with proven ability to deal with complex interrelated issues and strong analytical and problem solving skills to develop solutions that address root causes.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and writing skills.

 

Desirable

  • Good working knowledge of UNHCR¿s mandate, field operations, organisational structure, and policies & procedures.
  • Certification in risk management.
  • Proven skills in collaboration, team building, capacity development and with ability to deliver quality results on time.
  • Exposure to and experience in UN or humanitarian field operations and emergencies in various geographical locations and multiple functional areas.
  • Language Requirements: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English and local language.
