War Child Canada (WCC) is a registered Canadian charity and operating in the Middle East and South Asia regions (Afghanistan, Iraq, and Jordan) and Sub-Saharan Africa (Sudan, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda).

 

Currently, WCC is implementing Education and Protection/Access to justice programs for refugees and host communities in Adjumani and Isingiro districts and expanding to additional six refugee hosting districts.

 

Job Summary:  Under the guidance and supervision of the Project Manager, the Training and Outreach Officer oversees day-to-day Operations including mobilization, implementation and development of community sensitization and training activities for refugee community beneficiaries, host community members and all protection actors relevant to achieving the project goal. S/He will be responsible for conducting awareness campaigns, dialogues and in-depth training sessions encompassing the subject of human rights, protection, mediation skills, referral system, legal response to SGBV and Child Rights. He /she will work closely with other members of the legal aid project, forge strong partnership and collaboration with governmental departments and non- governmental organizations to identify and effectively respond to protection concerns, with particular focus on violence against women and children.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Training/Outreach (40%)                      

  • Make follow up visits in each community after activities to document impact, and strengthen referral network
  • Take part in the community surveys to assess program results and impact and as well participate in the quarterly internal reviews of the program
  • To attend monthly Team meetings to share experiences, lessons learnt and challenges.

Psychosocial Support (40%)

  • Carry out psychosocial needs assessment among the project target population including baseline and focus group discussions.
  • Develop and implement context-based tools, guidelines, and plans for the provision of center-based and outreach psychosocial services to survivors of violence, including SGBV
  • Assess the capacity of  community-based  workers,  partners  (such  as  health  workers)  and  relevant stakeholders in psychosocial support.

Monitoring and Evaluation: (20%)     

  • Support the design of monitoring, evaluation and learning systems of specific projects including developing indicators and data collection instruments.
  • Support the implementation of the M&E system developed e.g. by undertake field monitoring visits in each community after the training/ outreach activities have been conducted to assess impact and identify potentials for program improvement.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date and safe records/files (both electronic and hard copies) of clients/beneficiaries, and according to agreed/standard data protection protocols/guidelines




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a University-level education, preferably in social work, psychology, mental health, development studies or any related field.
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in Training and outreach activities particularly at field level.
  • Ability and Skills in participatory methodology to facilitate trainings in a community.
  • Experience in project report writing.
  • Excellent experience or understanding of participatory approaches and community mobilization.
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation of Training Programs.
