THETA is a registered Ugandan non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving the health of Ugandans by promoting collaboration between the Tradition and Biomedical Health Systems. THETA – Uganda has been at the forefront of fighting HIV and AIDS in Uganda working at both the National, District and Community level. THETA’s Mission is to improve the health of the most vulnerable members of society by promoting health and preventing disease through capacity building, advocacy and research in partnership with traditional and biomedical health care systems and communities.

 

Job Summary:  The Regional Project Coordinator will develop, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of health delivery systems and activities relating to Malaria, and build the capacity of the service delivery teams in all the districts in the cluster in line with the THETA Mandate and Mission.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the conceptualization, design and implementation of the Project, teasing out clear strategies, plans and methods especially for catch-up and acceleration to achieve the project results in line with the Programme Objectives
  • Create and implement a mechanism that will enable the agreed multi country Programme partners and the Headquarter management teams communicate and make appropriate decisions
  • Conduct regular performance management, supervise and mentor Programme Teams, that is, set, agree and review performance targets in line with THETA Objectives
  • Prepare periodic, monthly, quarterly, and annual Programme accountability reports and submit them in accordance with the Programme and Donor requirements.
  • Develop and implement a framework for proper utilization and accountability of all resources allocated to staff in line with the Programme Objectives
  • Develop and implement a framework for lobbying and maintaining mutually beneficial relations with the Districts, Communities and stakeholders served by the Programme in line with the Programme Objectives
  • Develop and implement a framework for resource mobilization activities for the Programme in line with the Health Management Policy and THETA mandate.
  • Develop and monitor a consolidated budget for the Programme with the support of Project Accountant and, in liaison with Executive Director and Headquarter Technical Officers and in line with the Programme Financial procedures
  • Monitor the preparation and timely implementation of the M&E plan that supports information into the internal and external learning cycles.
  • Develop and implement the Programme Communications Strategy that includes: production of case studies, reviews of lessons learnt, general documentation for internal and external dissemination, and peer reviewed publications.
  • Prepare a capacity development plan and tools for health workers involved in severe malaria case management to strengthen the quality of care at Health Facilities and referrals from community level, in line with the Programme Objectives
  • Track, quantify, and monitor the utilization of health commodities provided for THETA Uganda supported activities in line with the THETA Financial Procedures





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB), Doctor of Medicine (MD), with Public Health training.
  • Five years of working experience in Malaria, HIV and AIDS, TB,
  • Communities’ Health Systems strengthening and programming in donor funded projects is a must.
  • Familiarity with districts and Ministry of Health implementation structure is desirable
  • Experience in budget formulation, financial management and administration.
  • Experience working with Civil Society Organizations or Government health programs.
  • Working experience in the related areas within a rural setting is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the local social, development and political environment and set-up is key for this position.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills coupled with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize and commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills are required, excellent coordination and organizational skills.
  • Presentation, facilitation and training skills.
  • Proven experience in preparation of work plans and preparation of reports.
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in working in a complex/dynamic environment.
  • A team player with excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office coupled with excellent writing skills
