Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is the largest African Coca-Cola Bottler, accounting for 40% of all Coca-Cola volumes on the continent. In Uganda, CCBA is represented by Century Bottling Company Limited and Rwenzori Bottling Company Limited

 

Job Summary:  The Public Affairs & Communications Director (PAC) will design and oversee the implementation of a Public Affairs and Communication strategy and plan which directly supports the commercial objectives of the local market, covering media relations, government and other key stakeholder relations, industry affairs, corporate and sustainability accountability, and internal and external communications. To ensure that the PAC team has the skills and resources required to deliver the plan.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

PAC Strategic & Operational Planning For In Country

  • To ensure a comprehensive understanding of All developments in the market that could have an impact on the country’s business (e.g. regulation)
  • To use this intelligence to develop (in consultation with the PAC team) a focused strategy and plan
  • To ensure that the strategy and plan are agreed with the Country Managing Director and that they are reflected in the strategy development process for the business as a whole
  • Implementation of Strategy & Plans for the Local Market
  • Media Relations
  • Corporate Information & Publications
  • Internal Communications
  • Government Relations
  • Industry Affairs
  • Corporate Accountability
  • Measurement & Evaluation
  • Crisis Management

Functional Effectiveness

  • Cross-Functional Integration & Support
  • To ensure that the senior management team of the country (and other functions) are fully appraised of:
  • Emerging issues/stories/developments that are likely to impact significantly upon the business
  • External stakeholders perceptions of the company, the issues that underpin these views, and if/how perceptions/expectations are changing
  • Supporting the Development and Execution of the CCBA PAC Strategy
  • Through membership of the PAC Forums, to contribute to the development of:
  • CCBA’s reputation management strategy (designed to build the profile of the parent company); including providing updates on key development, trends, and changes in stakeholder perceptions and expectations within the local market
  • CCBA’s PAC capability through the sharing of expertise, knowledge, and best practice across the HQ PAC team




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Business Administration or any related experience
  • Five years of public affairs, external communications, and /or related fields including advertising, marketing, brand management, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • Extensive Understanding of Government, Government Regulations and Laws and motivations behind their actions; personal Expertise, Strategic Thinking and Analysis, Strong Advocacy and Presentation, Communications, and Diplomatic Skills, Advanced Writing & Public Speaking in English, Project & Budget Management
  • Extensive understanding of country’s socio-political-economic dynamics and how to derive System advantage from these.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Sound knowledge of the operating environment, including an analytical understanding of the policy, regulatory and tax systems, and cultural norms and how they impact the Company’s business.
  • Leading, mobilizing, and guiding industry to present joint positions to government and local authorities on all matters of mutual business interest

Professional Skills and Competencies: Has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:

  • Local/ regulatory processes, the priorities, and agenda of key policy-makers, and the inter-relationship between them
  • Local, regional, and international media, the stories that interest them and how they work, including the different characteristics and requirements of different types of media (news, financial, trade, etc.) and mediums (e.g. print, broadcast, wires, and internet), as well as the inter-relationships between them
  • Local/regional NGOs, their agenda, and how they work
  • Social and environmental issues for business
  • Best practice internal communications and techniques
  • Has the analytical skills to interpret key trends and emerging issues in terms of their impact on the country and/or the CCBA corporate brand
  • Have the creative skills required to develop compelling programs and communication campaigns
  • Has the organizational skills to coordinate the effective delivery of multiple stakeholder communications and cross-functional projects
  • Has the communication skills to develop and maintain a comprehensive network of relationships with a broad range of different stakeholders
  • Has the credibility to counsel and advise senior management on key developments within the external environment, their possible implications for the company, and to make considered recommendations to address them
  • Has the judgment and international perspective to recognize situations and events that could have an impact on other markets or CCBA as a whole
