Job Summary: The primary focus of the MCHN Officer will be to support the roll out of the MCHN  strategy to program coverage districts. Activities will focus on the enabling environment for the MCGs,  MCAs,  HUMC,  elders, community opinion leaders and other influential persons to speed progress towards positive nutrition, health and gender behavior changes. The officer will be responsible to offer technical guidance to  the day-to-day implementation of the MCHN component of the Apolou.

 

The ability of the officer to effectively deliver community level behavior change activities providing mentorship to staff including technical and logistical coordination for field implementation, will be one of the position’s three success factors. The second will be the ability of the officer to effectively build evidence of program coverage and quality, documenting learnings from the field to support strategy designed to increase the uptake of key health and gender behaviors and make tactic adjustments as needed, the third success factor will be the degree to which the MCHN officer effectively gathers activity monitoring and evaluation data and utilizes data inform activity implementation and program learning

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Program Performance and Quality

  • Provide leadership and daily oversight for planning and implementation of MCHN activities including; mentorship and support supervision. .
  • Support the TL in in the development of activity plans and a reporting formats.
  • Contribute to the development of training curriculum, project tools, and IEC materials; facilitate nutrition and health related trainings. .
  • Support rollout of all MCHN module trainings to male change agents, mother care groups, health unit management committees as a direct trainer and backstop supporter to PO and PA..
  • Support in troubleshooting of challenges faced by Program officers and Assistants standardizing implementation approaches and ensuring technical quality.
  • Working closely with TL broader MCHN team to coordinate overall activities and day-to-day operations and logistics to maximize use of resources and ensure complementary programming
  • Identify and document best practices to share with the team, KFNSA partner organizations and other relevant stakeholders.

Partnership Management

  • Establish and maintain productive working relationship with partner organizations, working together to develop complementary monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive management structures wherever possible.
  • Liaise with partners to coordinate and maximize influence at local and regional forums.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with sub-county and district leaders, soliciting their participation in all activities where appropriate.
  • Collaboratively represent the nutrition and health activities of Apolou together with partner’s organizations like Save the Children, Whave at relevant local government and civil society organizations.

Gender and Youth Integration

  • Ensure that program activities apply gender equity and youth empowerment principles, and meet the varying needs of men and boys; women and girls; and other vulnerable groups

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • Provide ongoing support to program assistants in data collection, monitoring, evaluation and learning.
  • Interact with the program filing system and ensure that information is organized according to the reporting and auditing needs of the program.
  • Representation and Coordination
  • Ensure establishment and maintenance of relationships with communities, village councils and local government. .
  • Support visits from regional and HQ based staff and external visitors, such as donors and media, in collaboration with the TL and MCHN manager when necessary.

Coordination with District Implementation Team

  • Build the capacity of the members of the implementation team on their particular sector through orientations, one on one discussions and demonstrating in the field.
  • The district implementation team after conducting a needs assessment will decide an intervention to be layered. The district implementation team will require support in developing a sector specific plan for a particular community. The member of the technical team will support the district team to plan the intervention that is related to the particular sector and purpose.
  • The district implementation team member will mobilize the extension service agents which will go on to mobilize the community groups to provide the services to conduct the activity in the field. The member of the technical team will coordinate with the district implementation team to conduct the activities in the field.
  • The technical team member will monitor the activities conducted in the field and provide feedback to the technical extension service agents to improve the quality of implementation of activities.
  • The technical team member will meet quarterly with the district implementation team to review the activities conducted in the field and reflect with the team to understand how the quality of implementation of activities would be improved.
  • Collaborate with the MEL team on the design and implementation of the Apolou CLA/Learning Agenda





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Degree in Public Health or related field
  • At least two years of related professional experience.
  • Community Behaviour Change implementation experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated skills in data collection, verification and documentation
  • Proven skills in networking, team-building, community consultations and organizational development;
  • Excellent reporting, communication and representation skills
