The Water Trust
empowers  rural communities in Uganda to
reduce preventable death and debilitating disease by enabling access to safe
water and a healthy, clean environment. Since 2008, The Water Trust has
partnered with more than 500 communities in Masindi and Kiryandongo,
benefitting more than 250,000 people. The Water Trust aims to increase the
scale of its operations and pioneer new approaches to increasing the impact and
sustainability of water, sanitation, and hygiene programs.

About Project:

Develop IEC training
materials for staff and communities: The IEC consultant will work closely with
The Water Trust staff to develop pictorial training books and radio messages
for use by The Water Trust staff and community resource people to support
training related to water, sanitation, and self-help group promotion. The Water
Trust will contribute the technical knowledge, and it is expected the IEC
consultant will translate these messages into clear, compelling visual content
for the pictorial aids and clear, and, if possible, compelling radio
narratives.

Job Summary: The
developer will also be working with a Gender Transformative Consultant to
ensure all materials are Gender Transformative in nature. Previous experience
in Gender-sensitive material development a plus.

Key Deliverables

Pictorial training
guides for The Water Trust staff (total across all guides: 60 pages of
illustrations,  60 pages of text in
bullet points):

·       
Participatory
vulnerability and capacity assessment 
(PVCA) guide and tools

·       
Community-led
total sanitation

·       
Self-help
group training

·       
Water
and Sanitation Committee training materials including PHAST tools and guidance

·       
Monitoring
and coaching communities guide for community leaders

·       
Abbreviated
pictorial reference guide for communities (including illustrations developed
for materials above but in a different layout).

If you are able to
develop compelling radio programming, you may provide an additional quote on
the following: 

·       
Radio
message script with handwashing and household hygiene messaging (likely about
six 10-minute episodes of radio content, but subject to change)

Anticipated Workload

·       
This
work is expected to begin by April 9 and be completed by May 15

·       
Storyboarding
of the four pictorial training guides (in Masindi with TWT staff)

·       
Rough
drafts of four pictorial training guides

·       
Revision
of rough draft pictorial training guides based on staff feedback

·       
Final
modifications to pictorial training guides to address any outstanding issues

·       
Draft
layout of the community reference guide based on staff input

·       
Final
modifications of the community reference guide based on staff input

·       
Storyboard
radio message script (in Masindi with TWT staff)

·       
Rough
draft of radio message scripts

·       
Test message
scripts with focus group in Masindi

·       
Revise
radio messages for final review and approval (until resonates with focus group)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
Proven
track record of high-quality IEC material development

·       
Ability
to work independently

·       
Written
and spoken English;

·       
Cross
cultural and field-based experience in developing contexts

Preferred

·       
Experience
working with gender in water, sanitation, and hygiene programming

·       
Experience
in rural contexts

·       
Experience
working with Non-Governmental Organizations; experience working with The Water
Trust

·       
Knowledge
of local language(s) and culture is an asset, especially Runyoro, Luo, Acholi

consultant, including consultancy fees differentiating i) field days; ii) desk
days; travel, visa, accommodation, data entry, logistics, stationary, etc.
(transportation within Masindi will be provided by The Water Trust).
