About US:
The MRC/UVRI Uganda
Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies,
clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural
studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to
inform policy and practice that have led to a large number of scientific
publications in peer reviewed journals over time.
Job Summary: The Project Coordinator will support the
development of a trial protocol and a Wellcome Trust funding application for
establishment of a controlled human infection model for Schistosoma mansoni
(CHI-Sm) in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
•
Take a
lead role in editing the proposed CHI-Sm trial protocol, dossier and
accompanying documentation (such as information and consent forms, clinical
record forms and standard operating procedures) required for regulatory
applications and approvals for the CHI-Sm
•
Coordinate
arrangements for a Joint Review meeting of the Ugandan regulatory and ethics
committees
•
Coordinate
project development teleconferences and face to face meeting(s)
•
Coordinate
pre-submission visit(s) by regulators/auditors required by the Wellcome Trust
•
Contribute
to development of a funding application for the CHI-Sm including writing
sections of the text, assembling required supporting materials
•
Assist
in development of the budget, including building design for a specific pathogen
free animal house, and requirements for a snail culture laboratory
•
Initiate
the development of an Investigator Master File (IMF)
•
Track
correspondences with IRB/UNCST/NDA
•
Support
effective communication with collaborators and funders
•
Participate
when necessary in preliminary stakeholder engagement work designed to support
the funding application
•
Attend
I-Vac programme meetings and laboratory meetings
•
Attend
and contribute to monthly Science Meetings and Science Seminars
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
•
The
applicant for the Medical Research Council (MRC) UK / UVRI) Project
Coordinator job placement must hold a Masters (or higher) degree in a relevant
field (a broad range of fields would be acceptable: e.g. immunology,
epidemiology, public health)
•
Demonstrable
research experience
•
Should
have experience/awareness/understanding of the regulatory requirements for
phase I and vaccine trials
•
Proven
experience with participation in protocol development and submissions for
ethical review
•
Having
GCP certification is an added advantage
•
Should
have excellent communication skills both orally and written
•
Should
have good computer skills and competence in the use of MS packages
•
