for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
Job Summary:  The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
Assistant-Water Quality will monitor the microbiological and physiochemical
quality of within the settlement to ensure that it meet the sphere and
humanitarian standards
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
General Duties:
  • Work with water user committees to identify gaps during sanitary
    surveys at water points and compilation of status reports on weekly basis.
  • Carrying out general supervision and capacity building of field
    based water quality monitors around the entire settlement.
  • Work with local leaders at community levels in identifying,
    mobilizing and sensitizing target communities for water quality,
    sanitation and hygiene   promotion.
  • Create linkages between the communities and the project, the local government
    extension staff and the target communities in Water, Sanitation and
    Hygiene, promotion.
  • Mobilization of beneficiary communities to maintain the
    established/rehabilitated/protected water sources.
  • Formation/training of Water supply and sanitation committees for the
    established/rehabilitated/protected water sources.
  • Participate in collection of useful data, success stories and
    beneficiary lists as required
  • Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/
    reports and proposals and budgets for donors.
  • Assist the WASH Officer in inspection of boreholes, shallow wells
    and water pumps and other water supply systems to ensure they are
    operational.
Coordination and
representation:
  • Represent DRC at WASH Water supply exercises in the field.
  • Ensure integration of WASH activities with other DRC sectors.
  • Coordinate with WASH counterparts in Rhino camp in the
    implementation of common funded projects.
  • Ensure good representation and reputation of WASH Sector at all
    levels.
  • Actively participate in internal and external coordination meetings.
Project
development:
  • Together with the WASH Officer, contribute to development of project
    concepts and proposal documents in respect to water quality.
  • Together with the WASH Officer develop the project’s M&E tools
    for monitoring water quality monitors at community level.
Project
implementation and reporting:
  • Ensure water quality standards are met in accordance to Sphere,
    UNHCR and the Uganda National standards.
  • Support the WASH officer in preparing WASH weekly reports.
  • Execute other duties as signed by the supervisor,
Staff management:
  • Work with Community Based Hygiene Promoters, water quality monitors
    and local leaders to ensure proper dissemination of information on water
    quality issues to beneficiaries for improvement.
  • Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles of accountability.
  • Develop and agree on own performance objectives, targets and ensure
    appraisals are conducted on the set targets as required.
  • Conduct daily field visits to support water quality monitors on implementation
    of WASH.
Logistics /Finance:
  • Support in tracking consumption of water quality consumables a
    daily/weekly basis.
  • Support initiation of procurement of consumables by providing the
    WASH Officer with information on items to be procured.
  • Support the Information Management Volunteer with updating
    consumables inventory and PR tracker.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee Council Water, Sanitation
    and Hygiene Officer- Water Supply job placement should hold a Diploma in
    Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Health Science,
    Water Engineering or WASH related course from recognized institution.
    Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
  • One year of experience in implementing WASH project specifically in
    areas of water quality monitoring.
  • Knowledge of WASH national and international standards.
  • Proven skills in computer programs (Word, Excel; minimum)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent skills in report writing and meeting dead lines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in war conflict areas
  • To establish effective working relations with the other team members
    and other stakeholders.
  • Languages: Good
    Communication skills in English required. Fluency in local languages
