About US:
Mandated by the Uganda
Cancer Institute Act of 2016, the UCI is an autonomous body, with the mandate
to, among others, undertake and coordinate the management of cancer and
cancer-related diseases in Uganda. It is critical to the evolution of a
National Centre of Excellence, providing specialized treatment and care for all
types of cancer using all the available subspecialty expertise possible, as
well as engineering oncology-centered research and training.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Planning, directing, budgeting, coordinating, monitoring and
    evaluating of work in the Pharmacy
  • Managing and accounting for allocated resources
  • Ensuring quality preparation of medicine and infusions
  • Liaising with National Drug Authority in ensuring that all medicines
    conform to the prescribed standards
  • Ensuring availability of medicines and maintain stock levels and
    advise clinicians and other health professionals on prescriptions
  • Liaising with ward management in ensuring that medicines are
    properly recorded and stored
  • Participating in developing and reviewing a National formulary
  • imparting knowledge and skills to staff and students
  • Ensuring that staffs adhere to professional code of conduct and
    ethics
  • Carrying out HRM issues like identifying manpower needs, training,
    promotion, leave and deployment
  • Compiles and submits periodic reports

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) Principal
    Pharmacist job must be a Ugandan holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
    or its equivalent from a recognized university or institution.
  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy Board
  • Must have a Postgraduate training in Pharmacy
  • At least six years of experience as a Health worker, three of which
    must be at the level of Senior pharmacist
