engaged in activities of fighting hunger in Uganda with a local, national and
global perspective. The organisation programmes are focused on a goal of
creating empowered food secure communities. The main areas of work are
Agriculture and sustainable livelihoods, Food and Nutrition Security,
Humanitarian support, Research, Advocacy and Capacity Development. At the core
of fighting hunger, the organization considers gender and sustainable
environmental conservation as important crosscutting issues.
Job Summary: The
Distribution Assistant will ensure actual management and supervision of actual
GFA activities at the Food Distribution Points (FDP) through ushering and
actual supervision of distribution corridors. The job holder of the DA Position
will work with Field Monitors in supporting community mobilization and other
stages of the food distribution process including FDP set up, beneficiary
sensitization, registry, crowd control, random weighing, monitoring of stacking
and sharing areas in line with Hunger Fighters Uganda (HFU) policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Community mobilization and coordination
    of food distribution activities at the FDPs in liaison with the Field
    Monitors, Food Management Committee and Local leaders.
  • Carry out community mobilization
    whenever assigned to.
  • Actively participate in beneficiary
    sensitization or meetings with community leaders as assigned by the field
    monitors.
  • Ensure that distribution materials are
    clean and loaded into the vehicle at the time of departure to the field
    and return from the distribution point.
  • Supervise offloading and stacking of
    commodities at the distribution site.
  • Supervise sample random weighing of
    commodities at distribution site.
  • Participate in verification exercise of
    beneficiaries at the registry point during food distribution.
  • Participate in enforcing crowd control
    mechanism that will ensure an orderly and successful distribution. This
    includes fencing off the stacking area of the distribution site as agreed
    with the Field Monitor, arranging beneficiaries in line.
  • Take part in scooping of commodities as
    assigned to you by the Field Monitor in charge of the given distribution.
  • Report, as soon as possible, any
    incidences of fraud you have witnessed to the
    Field Monitor or Commodity Officer for immediate action to be taken.
  • Supervise distribution corridors to
    ensure orderly distribution of food assistance.
  • Attend to beneficiary complaint and Feed
    Back Mechanism (CFM).
  • Ensure FDP safety and security measures
    are implemented and followed.
  • Participate in the pre-distribution and
    post distribution activities as per the activity plans.
  • Take part of the beneficiary
    mobilisation activities.
  • Could be assigned to do data entry where
    need be.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Hunger
    Fighters Uganda (HFU) Distribution Assistant job placement must hold a
    Diploma in Social Sciences and the related discipline.
  • Knowledge of either KISWAHILI OR
    KINYARWANDA IS A MUST
  • Experience in community based
    interventions is an added advantage.
  • Flexibility, good moral record, ability
    to communicate and work in a team are desirable qualities
  • Ability to work for long hours is
    expected.
