Government of Uganda in delivering the theme of its National Development Plan.
Job Summary: The
Investment Analyst carries out credit underwriting of applications with the
view to ensure strict adherence to the Bank’s credit risk appetite and policies
and procedures. The Investment Analyst is responsible for ensuring prudent
underwriting standards including high levels of client due diligence so as to
underwrite credit risk to prospective and existing clients that have a strong
probability of success, that will generate adequate cashflow, and will repay
all credit facilities from business cash flows. The job holder will ensure that
all Credit Risk Ratings assigned to credit exposures are dynamic, timely and
accurate in order to correctly reflect the risks associated with such a
Borrower at all times.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring prudent underwriting standards
    including
    high levels of
    client due diligence so as to underwrite credit risk to prospective and
    existing clients that have a strong probability of success, that will
    generate cashflow, and will repay all credit facilities from business cash
    flows.
  • Carry
    out
    independent analysis
    of the financial condition of borrowers and prospects in support of loan
    origination, loan renewal, and loan review.
  • Ensuring all Credit Risk Ratings assigned to
    credit exposures are dynamic, timely and accurate in order to correctly re
    flect the risks associated with such
    Borrower at all times.
  • The ongoing monitoring of all credits for
    inclusion on the Watch List; and a consolidated written report to the
    Board at least quarterly with updated comments and plans of action on each
    account
  • Credit Risk Supervision, including the
    monitoring of Borrower performance and the Credit Risk grading of each
    loan in the portfolio (at least annually, but in accordance with the
    Credit Risk Management Policy), and the loan portfolio and where appropria
    te recommending corrective actions to
    ensure adherence to Credit Policy or to identify credit deterioration as
    soon as practicable.
  • Ensure compliance with the Credit Risk
    Management Policy, and the Credit Procedures Manual at all times;
  • Ensuring the Credit Risk department shall be the second line
    of defence in assuring policy limits are observed and prudent credit
    underwriting and credit procedure practices are followed.
  • Prepare ratio analyses, peer group comparison,
    and provide commentary on the findings in
    cluding abnormalities, unusual trends, one-time events, relevant
    tasks, developing problems, etc. that require further
    investigation/clarification/explanation.
  • Participate in the preparation and processing
    of loan applications for the departmental/Management and Board Credit
    Committee in accordance with the department’s guidelines.
  • Support the Manager in monitoring of the performance and grading of the loan
    portfolio on a monthly basis and recommend remedial actions to management
    in accordance to credit policy
  • Support the Bank’s business growth objective
    through very timely credit assess
    ment/underwriting of projects.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a
     numerate
    degree with accounting, finance or engineering
  • Possession of professional qualification like
    CFA, ACCA and CPA.
  • At least five years of related experience in
    credit analysis/loan underwriting in a banking in
    stitution
  • Exposure to underwriting long term credit is
    highly desirable;
  • Sector specific underwriting specialization
    and/or experience (say in agriculture, manufacturing, tourism etc) will be
    an added advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of
    credit and Customer information
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and team orientation
