About US:
Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is responsible
for bulk purchase of electricity from the generating companies and selling the
electricity in bulk to the distribution companies throughout Uganda. UETCL is
also responsible for all exports and imports of electricity to Uganda. UETCL
envisions: “To become a leading strategic business partner in the transmission
and Single Buyer Business and to support sustainable energy development in
Uganda.”
Job Summary: The
Transmission Line Engineer will support UETCL in construction management and
supervision during execution of the contracts up to completion.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Participate
    in tendering, evaluations up to contract award in the line with
    Government of Uganda and World Bank procurement requirements.
  • Support
    the Projects through preparation of weekly, monthly quarterly and annual
    project progress reports as required by the Project Coordinator.
  • Keenly
    review and cause approval of designs as submitted by the Contractor
    through the Supervision Consultant
  • Review
    of Contractors’ procedures for Quality Assurance through the Supervision
    Consultant for the designs, manufacture, installation, testing and
    handover
  • Work
    in liaison with the Consultant for supervision to carryout daily
    Supervision of all physical works particularly on electrical engineering
    aspects of the transmission line.
  • Co-ordinate
    all Civil engineering works, mechanical and related works and ensures
    that interests of the Employer are well protected.
  • Manage
    all electrical engineering related works (insulation and stringing) so as
    to achieve quality and economy of works in line with the contract
    requirements.
  • Supervise
    project activities in accordance with project works plans and
    recommend corrective action to ensure timely delivery and cost effective
    outputs.
  • Perform any other duties as may be
    assigned from time to time.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal applicant for the UETCL
    Assistant Project Manager job placement should hold a good University Degree in Electrical or
    Mechanical or Civil Engineering or similar relevant qualification.
  • Professional
    registration with relevant body will be added advantage.
  • The
    applicant must have been involved in the construction and or construction
    supervision/management of at least three (3) transmission line
    construction projects of at least 132kV and 50km long.
  • Additional
    training in Project Management will be added advantage.
  • Must
    have in-depth knowledge of Industrial & SHE regulations.
  • Computer
    literacy skills i.e. proficiency in Ms Projects or similar project
    scheduling and monitoring tool.
  • Hold
    a clean and valid National Driving Permit.
  • Analytical
    skills, Interpersonal skills, Supervisory skills, Report writing skills.
  • Ability
    to withstand stressful work situations and have willingness to work
    long hours outside the normal hours.
  • A
    person of high integrity, must be highly motivated, innovative and a
    committed team player.
  • Willingness
    to travel extensively and be away from duty station for extended
    periods.
