About IWaSP Programme:
New partnerships among governments, companies and communities must be
forged to address these threats effectively. In response to this, the
International Water Stewardship Programme (IWaSP) has been set up as a €18m
programme operated by GIZ, to promote corporate water stewardship and
multi-stakeholder collective action for water security. IWaSP develops and
utilizes cutting edge approaches and tools enabling partnerships to assess and
manage water risks. It is initially focusing on watersheds in several African
countries. IWaSP has been operational in Uganda since 2013 and is implementing
several successful partnerships. In Uganda, Integrated Water Resources
Management (IWRM) is spearheaded by the Ministry of Water and Environment
generally, and the Directorate for Water Resources Management (DWRM)
specifically. IWaSP has partnerships with companies in the agriculture, food
and beverage, and oil and gas sectors, as well as a cooperation with the Kampala
Pollution Control Task Force (PTF) (for more
Job Summary: The Technical
Advisor will support the implementation of IWaSP partnerships and the PTF
cooperation in Uganda. Furthermore, the position will specifically support the
monitoring and evaluation of the IWaSP programme in Uganda.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Render support in the implementation of
    the International Water Stewardship Programme (IWaSP):
  • Support the implementation of all aspects
    of partnerships with the private sector, civil society and the relevant
    governmental authorities
  • The incumbent will also support the
    process of transferring the PTF cooperation into a formalized partnership
    and further development of this partnership
  • Support the identification and initiation
    of new cooperation opportunities with the private sector
  • Support knowledge management as well as
    good public relations and documentation, both in Uganda and in cooperation
    with GIZ Headquarters
  • Provide support to the IWaSP component
    lead and administrative tasks.
  • Implement the monitoring, evaluation
    (M&E) and reporting activities for IWaSP partnerships
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant for the GIZ Technical
    Advisor International Water Stewardship Programme career opportunity must
    hold a Master’s degree in social sciences (economics, political science,
    international relations), technical sciences, engineering (water/water
    resources management/ environment/ natural resources) or related field
  • A minimum of three years of relevant
    professional working experience, strong relationship management and
    business engagement skills as well as working experience in M&E
  • Previous experience in working for
    Non-Governmental Organisations, International Organizations and/or Donor
    Agencies
  • Strong organisational and analytical
    skills and ability to work well under pressure and with minimal
    supervision.
  • Be a self-starter.
  • Excellent communication skills and the
    ability to mediate between conflicting interests
  • Previous experience in working with
    Government agencies or local government
  • Previous experience with donor reporting,
    especially DFID, is an asset
  • Good computer skills (e.g. MS Office,
    databases)
  • Ability to effectively transfer skills and
    knowledge
  • Openness to share information and
    knowledge (“excellent communicator”)
  • Good team player in multi-cultural and
    inter-disciplinary team
  • Excellent written and oral English skills
  • Ability to travel frequently to different
    regions within Uganda
  • Ability to think “outside the box”
    regarding environmental solutions for the public and private sector
