The
Africa Innovations Institute (AfrII) is an indigenous, not-for-profit
non-governmental center of excellence, established in 2005 and based in Kampala
Uganda.  AfrII undertakes research and
innovations development on agriculture and food systems to ensure sustainable
increase in farmers’ income, food and nutrition security and environmental
sustainability in Eastern and Central Africa. Africa Innovations Institute
(Afrll) has received funding from the Federal University of Agriculture.

Job Summary: The Information and Communications Officer will
mainly be responsible for the public relations aspect of the organization. The
incumbent will build and maintain the organizations’ reputation for quality,
reliability, and customer satisfaction. She/ he also writes and delivers press
releases and handles all communication sent to the public.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Organize, manage and share in the most
    efficient and effective way possible, knowledge and information from
    research outputs of various programs of Afrll.
  • Develop and effectively manage all AfrlI
    website and database with a view of bringing to the attention of the
    national and international community the works and impacts of Afrll.
  • Coordinate and manage preparation,
    publication and disseminate periodic reports and the Institutes
    publications.
  • Build the capacity of staff of Afrll in terms
    of information, communication and public relations.
  • Develop communication strategies for delivery
    of corporate culture and business strategy.
  • Build and strengthen working relationships
    and manage media relations and maximize media opportunities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should be a holder of
    Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or similar field.
  • A minimum of five years of proven experience
    in Development Projects;
  • The applicant should also have experience of
    working with and supporting the private sector.
  • High level of verbal and written
    communication, negotiation, facilitation and training skills.
