Job Summary: The Head of Network Operations will play a key management role in the planning, development and daily operation of the network through consistently driving for network excellence and optimization of technology and processes in accordance with company and industry standards
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensuring that network capacity always exceeds demand with a just in time expansion strategy, and
  • Warranting that all networks are operating at peak efficiency with all customer and network features functioning flawlessly.
  • Reporting to: the Chief Technical Officer, Uganda, and with direct management and supervision of a diverse Network Operations technical team, the incumbent will have responsibility for:
  • The overall technical operation of the network incorporating both hardware and software.
  • The ongoing development of the Network Operations team and technical team in terms of knowledge, processes and professionalism.
  • Overseeing the optimal planning for all network elements: RAN, Core, switches and back office systems in accordance with established budgets and timelines.
  • Contributing to the development and adherence to effective and efficient network operation procedures in line with established SLAs and budgets.
  • Maintaining the operation of all interfaces with other networks; international internet, MNOs, PSTN, site back haul to the highest standards.
  • The design and implementation of a Preventive Maintenance Programme.
  • Overseeing and maintaining effective business relationships with all site owners (both tower companies and building management).
  • Competently planning for network growth in close co-operation with marketing and financial teams.
  • Delivering proficient support to the customer services operation at all times.
  • Provide continuous support the Chief Technical Officer with operational and planning tasks, deputizing if necessary.
  • Driving the rapid resolution of network anomalies and incidents through the network maintenance team in a timely manner.
  • Providing advice and expertise to Afrimax technology teams in other countries, as required.
  • Supporting efforts to maintain good relations with Ugandan regulators.
  • Providing accurate reports to Management on system performance on a regular basis.
  • Maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders, within Afrimax and in partnership operations
  • Perform any other ad hoc tasks as and when assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The successful candidate must have two or more years proven supervisory or management expertise leading technical operations preferably with a mobile network operator; and be ready to take on further responsibilities within a multinational organization
  • Mid to advanced Career (5 years of network operations or more).
  • The candidate must also possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or relevant experience.
  • Telecom network training and experience.
  • Good understanding of change management, configuration management & fault management.
  • Results oriented with a strong work ethic and excellent people oriented supervision skills: lead by example.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of radio base station equipment, baseband, remote radio heads, antennas.
  • Excellent knowledge of IP, Network Architecture and signaling.
  • Strong understanding of network monitoring concepts and management tools.
  • Able to collate and interpret data from various sources.
  • Ability to assess faults, prioritize and respond accordingly.
  • Capable of multi-tasking, time management and prioritization of workload.
  • Work as a team with all Afrimax personnel.
  • Good written and oral English language skills.
