To ensure the development and implementation of the WWF Uganda
Conservation Strategy to the highest standards.

Key Job Roles:
- Ensures that the WWF
Uganda Conservation Strategy is implemented through the effective
management and development of the “Strengthening Sustainable Environment
& Natural Resources Management, Climate Change Adaptation and
Mitigation in Uganda – SSENRMCCAM project. - Ensures that the
SSENRMCCAM project strategy is in line and evolves with the WWF UCO
Conservation Strategy requirements; - Provides advice and
collaboration as appropriate to SSENRMCCAM project team members; - Promotes the vision
and objectives of the WWF Uganda Conservation Strategy to external and WWF
stakeholders, and participates in strategic partnership-building /
fundraising approaches to them; - Establishes and
implements effective project organizational / management structures,
policies, and processes; and - Ensures that WWF
Uganda technical standards and reporting requirements are met.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and provides
periodic technical progress reports on project activities, achievements
and results as per work plans; - Coordinates day-to-day
Project implementation, management and monitoring; - Works with the Steering
Committee in the identification of Project partners, establish MOUs, and
develop work plans and budgets for implementation of contract services; - Coordinates inputs
from other stakeholders and monitor Project Implementation, impact and
lessons learnt; - Develops a detailed
schedule of Project reviews and meetings, in consultation with Project
implementation partners and stakeholders representatives. Such schedule
will include (i) tentative time frames for Tripartite Reviews, Steering
Committee Meetings, and (ii) Project related Monitoring and Evaluation
activities; - Serves as liaison
person with all stakeholders including UNDP Country office; - Reports on progress of
Project implementation and flags delays and/or difficulties faced during
implementation so that the appropriate support or corrective measures can
be adopted in a timely and remedial fashion; - Ensures regular and
effective communication with partners and relevant stakeholders at all
levels; - Oversees procurement
and delivery of Project equipment in the field; - Ensures timely,
adequate and controlled disbursement of funds for field activities, and
ensure that the field activities are implemented adequately with clear
accounting systems, acceptable to WWF and UNDP accounting requirements; - Assists in the
coordination and implementation of Project monitoring systems and plans;
external evaluations and audits according to Project document
specifications; - Ensures the successful
implementation of workshops, seminars, special events and training
opportunities including overseeing event coordination and logistics; - Carries out any duties
associated with the Project as agreed by the Steering Committee and
Conservation Manager; - Institutes,
coordinates & monitors contracts/agreements’ performances with various
stakeholders; - Safeguards Project
equipment & logistics to ensure they are used in the most cost
effective way to implement the project.
Qualifications, Skills &
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant should
possess a Higher University degree in Forestry, Natural Resource
Management or Environmental Management. - At least six (6) years work experience in project management in the field
of sustainable natural’s management; - Demonstrable
experience in working with partners and stakeholders at all levels, from
Government Ministries, Local Governments down to communities; - Clear understanding of
natural resource management policies and local government political
structures; - Previous work
experience in the Afro-montane forest ecosystem of the Albertine Rift is
an advantage; - Proven leadership and
team building and management skills; - A working knowledge of
financial management, especially at the project level; - Excellent
interpersonal skills, with ability to network, develop and maintain strong
relationships at all levels, internally and with local communities, local
governments and CSOs; - Adaptability and
flexibility; able to take initiatives and prioritise among competing
demands; - Must be computer
literate; familiarity with GIS applications is desirable; - Must have the ability
to lead a multi-cultural team and an interest in capacity building; - Must be willing to
travel extensively throughout the project area to visit sites where
project-assisted activities are taking place; - Strong skills in
project planning, proposal writing, financing, management, implementation,
and evaluation, and experience working with donors; - Strong organisational
and analytical skills; - Proven &
demonstrated trait of high integrity, honesty, accountability and
transparency in managing public resources.
