The Makerere University
Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV research program that was
established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding between
Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement of
Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to
develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of public
health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and
building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological
and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support and
surveillance of influenza and other emerging infections. Of Recent, MUWRP has
entered in a collaboration with The Austere environment Consortium for Enhanced
Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO) which is a newly formed consortium with Directorship
based at the US Naval Medical Research Centre in Frederick, Maryland to advance
understanding of clinical management and pathogenesis of sepsis as it relates
to a spectrum of clinical manifestations and varying etiologies in
resource-constrained settings.

Officer will be primarily responsible for facilities maintenance, stores and
supplies activities as they relate to stores and logistics function in the
administration department

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Facilities maintenance:
- Generator
– to ensure adequate fuel and maintenance - Office,
lab and clinic premises-to coordinate with cleaners and gardeners to
ensure cleanliness and to recommend renovations when necessary - Project
house – to coordinate with housekeeper to ensure adequate food supplies,
water flow, electrification, DSTV subscription and cleanliness of house
and compound especially when visitors are expected. - Motor
Vehicles – to coordinate with drivers to ensure licensure and maintenance.
- Tag
furniture and equipment with HMJF or MUWRP labels appropriately. f. Ensure
that all new staff are issued with Identity Cards,
2. Stock and Supplies:
- Maintain
a filling system for all procurement and supply records in line with set
departmental and administrative guidelines. - Solicit
for quotations for local purchases - Assist
in converting requisitions that have been approved into purchase orders
especially for local supplies. - Make
outside deliveries and pick – ups when necessary. - Implement
logistical support process in the receipt and distribution of products in
accordance with the set reporting guidelines. - Support
and assist the logistics supervisor on all issues related to the
procurement procedures for goods, works and services. - Assist
in monitoring materials availability to avoid stock outs. - Receive
requests for goods and services from user departments. - Ensure
that supplies are appropriately stored for easy identification and
retrieval. - Ensure
appropriate stores documentation for receipt and release of materials:
Supplies receiving reports, stores requisitions, delivery notes and
records of the same. - Perform
any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by administration.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should hold A Degree in Purchases and Supplies/ Procurement or
related field from a recognized University. - At
least two years experience in stores and logistics environment. - Strong
computer skills with knowledge of supplies/stock management software like
Microsoft Dynamics is an added advantage. - Fluency
in verbal and written English. - Highly
organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated. - Ability
to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. - Ability
to work on own initiative.
