The Dutch Consortium for Rehabilitation (DCR) Pamoja programme in Uganda is being implemented by Save the Children and ZOA Uganda. The programme covers Amuru, Nwoya, Pader/ Agago, Amudat/Nakapiripirit districts. DCR is a 5 year programme, focusing on livelihood & food security, health (Integrated Community Case Management of childhood illnesses), education (formal and non- formal), community governance and sectoral systems strengthening. Save the Children as the lead member, seeks to fill the following vacant position and applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced nationals.
Job Title: DCR Advocacy and Communication Specialist (1 position)
Duty Station: Kampala with regular travel to the Eastern and Northern parts of the Country
Job Purpose: The job holder will be required to spearhead the implementation of the DCR project advocacy and Communication strategy/ plan, ensure effective coordination of advocacy activities among Consortium members, build capacity DCR staff and local partners in advocacy. Facilitate the documentation and sharing of knowledge, lessons learned and best practices in-country and with other DCR countries.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, social sciences, social work and social administration, development studies, education. Post graduate training in project planning and management an added advantage.
- At least three years practical Advocacy and Communications experience
- Excellent facilitation, cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills
- Good contextual knowledge related to the development aid sector
- Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team.
- Good knowledge of the local and international media and communication dynamics and the UN system.
- Good and demonstrated understanding of Child rights issues in Uganda and in a consortium led programme.
- Proven analytical ability, with strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to document and transform experiences from the field into lessons learnt.
- Skills of political analysis, sensitivity and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of current political situation necessary to effectively and tactfully capture news from our field work and draft articles.
- Computer literacy skills – MS Office applications, word, excel, PowerPoint, Spread sheets
