About Program:
Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP) is one of the agriculture development programmes promoted by Caritas Kampala (Social and Economic Development Department of Kampala Archdiocese). This Programme employs an environmentally friendly sustainable approach toward farming that promotes food security and increased incomes but targeting the rural and peri - urban sub counties of Kampala, Wakiso and Mpigi districts. At Diocesan level, SAP targets over 1,500 farmer households with an average size of 8 members (12,000) as direct beneficiaries composed of Small holder farmers in 750 Old category households, 375 small holder Medium category households and 375 smallholder New Category.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Training farmer groups in Sustainable Agriculture, Waste management, Climatic Change issues and other related subjects
  • Execute field trials / experiments with farmers and trial evaluation using the farmer family learning group extension approach
  • Facilitate strengthening of farmer groups
  • Train and mentor school children in Integrated Land Use design (ILUD) skills that will lead to green environments at the target schools
  • Networking and linking farmers to relevant markets within and outside the country
  • Network with likeminded stakeholders
  • Carry out extension and follow up among beneficiaries
  • Ability to organize events and people 
  • Tasked with writing of reports
  • Knowledge in Project proposal writing
  • Develop proposals and coordinate with SAP networks in and outside Uganda to raise resources from international funding/donor agencies for livelihood promotion/ enhancement projects.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the project Coordinator

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant should hold a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture / environment management 
  • At least three years working experience with NGOs in implementation of agriculture-related project including facilitation and fundraising
  • Proven experience of working with school gardens / youth groups
  • Experience in indigenous seeds conservation is an added advantage
  • Excellent communication, presentation and documentation skills in English
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop public relations and networking
  • Be proficient in computing skills Ability to ride a motorcycle is mandatory
  • Self motivated and Innovative
  • Ability to work for long hours in field conditions with minimum supervision
  • Age: Below 45 years

The FEWS NET implementing team includes NASA, NOAA, USGS, USDA, Kimetrica, and Chemonics International, the last of which manages the Washington-based technical office and more than 20 field offices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Drive and maintain the project vehicle.
  • As assigned and/or preapproved by the driver’s supervisor, drive assigned project vehicle daily, including on scheduled field trips, project-related trips within Kampala and other driving assignments as required.
  • Clean assigned vehicle both inside and out.
  • Check assigned vehicle weekly to ensure that it is operational and safe to drive. At least on a weekly basis, check the oil, radiator, fan belt, brake fluid, wipers, tires, lights, and signals.
  • Initiate and supervise any repairs required on assigned vehicles with supervisor’s approval.
  • Initiate and supervise routine periodic maintenance of assigned project vehicles, including oil and filter changes, tune-ups, and professional cleaning by high-pressure hose based on the manufacturer’s instructions on optimum maintenance requirements.
  • Fulfill project reporting requirements and maintain records on vehicle routing and vehicle condition.
  • Ensure passenger safety by obeying traffic laws, driving carefully, and ensuring each person in the vehicle wears a seatbelt.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Driver should possess a UCE certificate
  • At least five (5) years’ experience as a driver with an International NGO.
  • Hold a clean and valid Driving permit.
  • Basic skill in motor mechanization and maintenance.
  • Expertise in driving both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
  • Experience in driving long upcountry distances.
  • General Knowledge of Uganda Geography and locations of major towns.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be a strong team player
  • Present a professional demeanor and exercise professional judgment
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments; capable of making decisions which will foster timely work completion

Mt. Elgon Labour-Based Training Centre (MELTC) is a Project under the Ministry of Works and Transport. MELTC is the National Training Centre for the application of Labour- Based Technology (LBT) in the rehabilitation and maintenance of National, District, Urban and Community Access Roads. The Training Centre is located 20 Kms from Mbale Town along the Mbale - Budadiri road; adjacent to Uganda Technical College-Elgon. The training conducted at MELTC is both classroom and field based.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Sensitizing MELTC staff, trainees and other stakeholders on environment and social safeguards in road works
  • Provide guidance to MELTC on new and emerging environmental and social safeguard policies, laws and regulations issued by regulators like NEMA
  • Provide technical support to community based initiatives on the renewal and sustainability of the natural environment
  • Participate in conducting Training Needs Assessments (TNA) for trainees in regard to environment and social safeguards in road works
  • Carry-out Environment and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) on training roads/sites and trial contracts and submitting them to NEMA for clearance and approval
  • Monitoring the implementation of the Environment and Social Management Plans (ESMP) in Local Governments
  • Preparing periodic reports on the state and implementation of environment and social safeguards
  • Preparing work plans and respective budgets for the implementation of environment and social safeguards in road works at MELTC and districts
  • Provide technical and outreach support to contractor trainees and local governments on the implementation of environment and social safeguards in road works
  • Participating in the updating and/or review of the MELTC training curriculum in regard to environment and social safeguards

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s of science degree in Environmental Science/ Management
  • Three years of hands-on experience in mainstreaming environmental and social safeguard matters in the roads sub sector
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
