The Agency for Cooperation in Research and Development-Uganda (ACORD-U), received grants from USAID, to implement the “Keeping Children Healthy and Safe (KCHS) Activity” in South Western Uganda (Sheema, Mitooma, Kazo, Kiruhura and Ibanda Districts).


Job Summary:  The Driver will support the KCHS activities for effective programme delivery in KCHS activity in the districts of operation.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        The ideal candidate must hold an Ordinary level Certificate with at least a pass in English

·        Hold a valid driving license

·        Must have passed the Ministry of Works and Transport competence driving test.

·        Experience of at least 3 years working as a driver in a busy organization.

·        Knowledge in mechanics is an added advantage.

Job Summary:  The Driver is responsible for driving and maintaining ALIGHT vehicles within and outside designated areas of operation as per technical guidance and specifications established by the organization


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Drive assigned vehicle in safe manner and on movement schedules as directed by the supervisor.

·         Drive organizational vehicles in strict adherence to the laws governing road safety for other motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and passengers.

·         Maintain assigned vehicle in good working condition through daily routine checks on battery, water, oil, lighting, etc.

·         Keep assigned vehicle full of fuel, oil, water and other lubricants, and account to the supervisor for onward reporting.

·         Keep and maintain motor vehicle Log Book.

·         Wash, clean and make the vehicle tidy for use.

·         Make weekly, or where necessary instant, reports to the supervisor regarding mechanical status of the allocated vehicle.

·         Assist in identifying and carrying out minor motor vehicle repairs.

·         Keep charge of the motor vehicle accessories kept in the allocated vehicle.

·         Assist program staff in program activities whenever necessary.

·         Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·         The ideal candidate for the ALIGHT Driver job must hold an Ordinary Level Education

·         Certificate in Defensive Driving

·         Must hold a valid driving license with class B, DL and at least 5 years driving experience.

Job Summary: The Driver Mechanic will drive Cordaid vehicles safely in accordance with Cordaid requirements and with supervisor’s instructions to transport cargo and personnel, Trainees, and guests to appointments in Kampala and, as may be needed, throughout the countryside, where Cordaid operates within Uganda. The incumbent will also have assigned responsibility in the oversight of periodic maintenance and repairs of Cordaid vehicles.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Driving: The incumbent will operate official Cordaid vehicles to transport staff and cargo.

·         Maintenance and Repair: The Driver will ensure that vehicles are maintained and repaired from service providers on time. He will also maintain the vehicles clean as required.

·         Record keeping: The Driver will maintain vehicle logs that record each trip taken, odometer readings and time of departure and arrival for each trip. Each time that fuel is put in the vehicle, the driver will document on the mileage sheet the amount, odometer reading, and date obtained. Any maintenance must also be recorded.

·         Security: Keep the supervisor abreast of any security situations or hazards and report timely to the Procurement and Logistics Manager any Security incidents or accidents that require security and safety measures. Standard procedures need to be followed when an accident occurs

·         The Driver will also deliver and pick-up messages and parcels. He will make purchases as may be requested.

·         The Driver will load and offload heavy items into/from vehicles, as well as help move furniture and equipment from one part of the office and residences to another.

·         The driver will perform administrative clerical work whenever required by the supervisor and the team at Kampala office.

·         Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with the required tools and equipment such as the fire extinguisher, wheel change kit, spare wheel and the first aid kit.

·         Submit the inspection report on a weekly basis and/or after every handover of the vehicles to another party and report any maintenance problems that may require attention.

·         The driver may also be required to offer office clerical work and general administrative assistance.

·         Perform any other duties as assigned by the Logistics Manager.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·         The ideal candidate for the Cordaid Driver vacancy should have a minimum of O level certificate. Possession of a Diploma in logistics will be an added advantage.

·         Excellent knowledge on vehicles repair and maintenance are highly desired.

·         A minimum of three years of professional chauffeur experience and a valid local driver's license for following types of vehicles is highly preferred. Classes:B (motor cars),CM (medium commercial), DL (light omnibus).

·         Knowledge and ability: Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns is required; knowledge and prior work experience with electronic record keeping (computer usage) is also highly desired.

·         Duties require the ability to deal with officials and guests at the front desk and occasionally VIPs in a relaxed but competent and professional manner.

·         Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff, Implementing partners, business people, property owners.

·         Proven exposure and experience of cross-cultural communication skills is highly desired.

·         Legally able to work in Uganda.

·         Language Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write in English fluently.

The Government of Uganda is implementing the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD). The main objective of the Programme is to empower the target youth to harness their socioeconomic potential and increase self-employment opportunities and income levels. The Programme provides revolving funds to finance small enterprises initiated by the groups of youth in various sectors of the economy. The implementation of the Programme is mainstreamed into the government structures at the national and local government levels with support from Technical Support Team (TST) based at the National and Regional levels.


Job Summary:  The incumbent will drive and maintain the vehicle in accordance with the transport policy and as directed by the supervising officer.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Schedule annual vehicle examination for service vehicles with the transportation Department.

·         Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general maintenance schedules, especially car tyre condition

·         Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned and arrange minor repairs where necessary, check oil and tyres properly and keep the service vehicles in clean condition, both inside and outside.

·         Keep track of timely car insurance renewals.

·         Update monthly mileage records.

·         Maintain log book of each service vehicle on daily basis.

·         Distribute mail as needed, both incoming and outgoing.

·         Deliver correspondence to government authorities and assist in processing various permits (such as airport pass etc.).

·         Facilitate airport pickups for VIP visitors and transportation during official visits.

·         Assist with office and meeting room re-arrangement for various meetings/events.

·         Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·         The applicant must hold a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with a pass in English language and Mathematics

·         Valid driving permit of class E, held for the last three years.

·         Driving experience in a reputable organization for at least two years.

·         Working knowledge and experience in driving for at least three years from a reputable organization.

·         Basic knowledge of mechanical and vehicle maintenance.

·         Certificate of defensive driving from Ministry of Works

·         Clean driving record

The USAID Integrated Child and Youth Development Activity (USAID ICYD Activity) aims to improve learning outcomes, advance HIV epidemic control in Uganda, and ensure that children and youth can lead resilient, healthy, and productive lives. The USAID ICYD Activity will deliver critical HIV/GBV/violence prevention and response services to children and youth and their families in communities, clinics, and schools. Within USAID’s Journey to Self-Reliance Framework, USAID ICYD Activity will build the operational and technical capacity of four Ugandan Primary Local Partner (PLP) organizations to become direct recipients of USG funding within two years while strengthening government capacity to deliver core services to children within an integrated referral network and case management system.


Job Summary:  The Driver will be responsible for facilitating project officers to the field for project implementation as per the approved travel plans. He/he will also be responsible for vehicle maintenance and fuel accountability. The Driver will report to the Program Accountant.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·         The incumbent will drive project staff and other authorized persons to and from various points.

·         Observe and adhere to the safety precautions before and during driving.

·         Maintain proper vehicle mileage and usage records as per requirements.

·         Conduct daily condition checks to ensure that the vehicle is in good running order.

·         Keep the vehicle in a clean condition to uphold the image of the organization.

·         Deliver and collect mails and other documents to and from various offices as required.

·         Pick and deliver UWESO visitors and any other staff who is authorized to travel in the UWESO vehicle.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·         The ideal candidate must hold an Ordinary Level Certificate of Education.

·         A clean and valid Driving Permit for classes preferably CM and DL.

·         Certificate of Motor Vehicle Mechanics from a recognized School

·         Certificate in Defensive Driving.

·         Five years of driving Experience for NGO.

·         Computer literacy and documentation skills are a must.

·         Availability and willingness to work extra hours when required.

·         Highly developed interpersonal and communication Skills.
