Fresher Fleet Assistant US NGO Job Opportunities - International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC is there to protect women and children from violence and exploitation by fostering a safe environment and encouraging education, and is supporting farmers and small businesses, and helping communities promote peace and long-term development.

Job Summary:  The Fleet Assistant is responsible for the efficient coordination and management of all transport, fleet, and equipment management functions for IRC’s office in Arua. The position will also be responsible for the implementation of good fleet management practices and policy across all the field sites

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
·       Work with the Supply Chain manager/officer to design a suitably staffed and equipped transport function to support the IRC’s vehicle operations and policies.
·       Implement and direct IRC standard Vehicle policies and procedures, with attention to safety and security issues.
·       Manage and be accountable for the vehicle fleet, ordering and inventory management of all vehicle related parts and consumables, including fuel.
·       Evaluate, manage and monitor drivers.
·       Focal point for all purchases in Transport department. Raising PRs for vehicles spare parts and vehicle repairs.
·       Manage the vehicle pool (if applicable).
·       Ensure that appropriate communications equipment is installed and functioning in IRC vehicles to meet the operational and security requirements.
·       Ensure the correct and timely routine maintenance and repair of IRC vehicles and generators.
·       Ensure that all vehicles carry the required on-board documentation and that all documents are kept current (including insurance).
·       Inspect and record condition of vehicles, by maintaining weekly checklists file and ensuring that Vehicles logbooks are accurately filled
·       Carry out regular training to all drivers on basic vehicle mechanic skills, daily vehicle inspection, drills on safety driving, defensive driving, use of Codan, etc.
·       Ensure all vehicles are properly cleaned on daily basis.
·       Prepare weekly and monthly report on transport department and discuss with Supply Chain manager
·       Signing on vehicle fuel forms for refueling and keeping accurate record and monitoring system on fuel consumption.
·       Work with the Supply Chain Coordinator to ensure that vehicles are prepared for routine and emergency security requirements.
·       Ensure that all vehicles are secure when not in use.
·       Be familiar with local regulations / laws.
·       Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Key Deliverables:
·       Provide on-time, standard monthly reports to the Supply Chain Manager/officer, including fuel consumption report, maintenance report and any other reports requested by Supervisor.
·       Well maintained fleet and good filing system for all vehicles
·       Generate and / or maintain comprehensive price list for spare parts
·       Maintain full and accurate inventory records for warehouses, assets and furniture
·       Conduct documented quarterly job performance reviews of Transport staff, providing appropriate feedback.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·       The applicant for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Fleet Assistant job must hold a valid driving license
·       At least two years’ work experience in fleet management, at least one year in a supervisory capacity
·       Strong sense of personal integrity.
·       Attention to detail.
·       Strong supervisory skills.
·       Ability to multi-task.
·       Team spirit and problem-solving abilities.
·       Knowledge of generic transport procedures and practices (IRC or NGO experience advantageous).
·       Competent in spoken and written English
·       Mechanical background is a plus
·       Good mathematical skills.
·       Competent use of PC especially spreadsheets.
·       Experience in Using HF/VHF radios

Driver Jobs - Office of the Prime Minister (OPM)

About US:
Under the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU), a Government of Uganda programme supported by the European Union (EU) and supervised by Office of the Prime Minister, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has received a grant to implement an action, Building resilience to enhance food and nutrition security, incomes and health in Northern Uganda. The three-year grant action will be implemented by a consortium of partners in seven districts of Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Otuke and Kwania in Lango sub-region, and Kapelebyong and Amuria in Teso sub-region.

IITA is one of the 15 Institutes of the CGIAR global research partnerships with headquarters in Ibadan Nigeria, and in Uganda, permanent offices are in Namulonge and Kampala respectively. IITA is a not-for-profit International Research organization, whose focus is on transforming African agriculture through Agricultural Research for Development as well as Partnership for Development and is governed by the Board of Trustees.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
·        Provide secure and timely driving services to the DINU project staff, goods/documents and any other person authorized to travel in official transport
·        Deliver payment transfers to the bank and/or the suppliers, assist with postage and with pick up of office purchases
·        Regularly maintain DINU project transport assets and ensure they are in perfect condition with up to date licenses
·        Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general vehicle maintenance schedules
·        Update monthly mileage records -Maintain logbook of each service vehicle on daily basis
·        Work with the project manager to organize a project calendar on driver service planning and scheduling
·        Ensure that DINU staff make it to all appointments, meetings and other duties on time 
·        Perform proper checking vehicles on a daily basis following standard checklist provided by IITA and ensure proper cleaning of the vehicles
·        Informing the project managers if any irregularity happens to the project vehicles and suggest the necessary steps
·        Assist in identifying and purchasing necessary spare part for project vehicles; undertakes minor repair of vehicles under the administrative custody of the project and obtains appraisals on cost of vehicle repairs.
Other duties
·        Act as a backup for the Receptionist and as a messenger, assist with meeting room re-arrangement for various meetings/events and perform occasional handyman jobs inside the Office.
·        Support in the organization of workshops and seminars in accordance to the DINU project workplan, including logistical
·        Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·        The applicant must hold a secondary school certificate with valid driver's permit/license issues by a minimum of 5 years' experience as a driver
·        Experience with maintenance of vehicle records and transport files
·        Knowledgeable about road network and traffic rules of Uganda
·        Good English language understanding, speaking and writing skills
·        Ability to manage competing demands and work under pressure of frequent and tight deadlines
·        Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
·        Good IQ and capability to manage emergency situations on the road, if any particularly at the time of traffic accident
·        Formal/hand on technical training on vehicles maintenance and repairing work are preferable.
·        Willing to undertake intensive field trips outside the duty station
·        Good health/physical fitness certified by a professional registered Doctor

GOAL is currently seeking to hire one (1) Driver to join our Kaabong team.

Job Summary:  As a driver you will be expected to be on hand to deliver personnel and goods to the destination in a safe and respectful manner. Adhere to GOAL instructions written in the logbook and drivers policy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
Driving
  • Drive the GOAL vehicle in a safe and controlled manner in order to avoid accidents.
  • Respect standard traffic rules.
  • Respect speed limits and adjust the speed according to traffic density, pedestrian along the road, load of the car and road conditions.
Vehicle condition
  • Responsible for the presence of all equipment in the vehicle as listed in the GOAL logbook
  • The car is a representation of GOAL, thus it must be kept clean (body, chassis, engine).
  • Responsible for the follow up of the vehicle (service and repair) and inform the supervisor when action is needed.
  • Responsible for the daily and weekly check of the vehicle (as described in the logbook).
  • Updating the logbook.
  • Ensure presence of the first aid kit inside the vehicle.
Movements
  • Keep updated on the present security situation of the area to where he is asked to go.
  • Prepare the vehicle in good time before departure (the day before), make sure of the right equipment needed for the specified location, toolkit, fuel tanks full etc…
  • Responsible for the safety of goods carried (safely stored and tightened, weight balanced, not on the roof).
  • Load and offload his vehicle.
Safety and Security
  • Ensure passengers and self have seat belts on at all time while driving
  • Notify responsible officer in case of an accident


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
·        Minimum O Level qualification
·        Valid Ugandan driving permit with classes B, CM, DL
·        At least 3 years previous driving experience preferably with an International NGO
·        Good spoken English and at least one local language
·        Appropriate knowledge of vehicle maintenance

Job Summary:  The Driver will drive and take care of UNMA vehicles in accordance with the transport policy as directed by the supervising officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
·        Drives vehicles for official duty and assignments;
·        Carries out basic maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle;
·        Reports major technical and mechanical faults to the supervising officer immediately;
·        Maintains basic records regarding the vehicles as instructed;
·        Ensures safety of the vehicle while on duty;
·        Handles all driving assignments as approved by the supervisor to ensure operational efficiency;
·        Carries out pre-and post-vehicle checks on a daily basis by filling in the check

·        Perform any other duty as assigned by the supervisor
