Job Summary:  The Driver performs the operations, maintenance, and management of project vehicles, including routine maintenance, as well as providing transportation for project activities for all staff. As needed, the Driver performs office support tasks, as requested.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Drive project personnel and equipment to locations in Uganda for project activities. Maintain timely schedule set by program staff.
  • Maintain project vehicles, keep accurate records for vehicle issues, including fuel, mileage, and trip logs, and schedule routine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Observe all company vehicle utilization policies and in country traffic laws.
  • Perform daily errands such as collecting and delivering mail, making bank deposits and withdrawals, purchasing items for the office, and refueling the vehicles on an as-needed basis
  • Transport staff to project sites and offices or for implementation of activities
  • Ensure the readiness of the vehicle, in a good mechanical condition and ensure vehicle is prepared for long trips on rough terrain prior to field visits.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and out. Ensure that the first aid kit is in place and stocked at all times.
  • Assist in routine office chores when necessary such as photocopying, binding, filing, moving furniture, answering telephones, sending faxes, and cleaning the office premises
  • Carry out routine monthly service of the vehicle, including oil changes and general service.
  • Complete the vehicle log book on a daily basis, recording all travel and requiring        staff
  • transported to sign, and submit to Administration Officer for review and approval on a weekly basis.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the SOS Children's Villages Driver vacancy must hold an  O’ Level Certificate
  • Possession of a Driver’s license with classes B, CM, DL.
  • At least six years Driving experience.
  • Experience in Defensive driving is desirable.
  • Skills in Motor Vehicle Mechanics is an added advantage
  • Experience working with NGOs is an added advantage

Desired Experience and Qualifications
  • Oral and written English language fluency.
  • A basic logistics & transport management course is an added advantage

Since 2009, Rotary International and USAID have been working together to deliver WASH programs with greater impact and sustainability in developing countries under the H2O Collaboration. Joint efforts have been conducted in the Dominican Republic, the Philippines and in Ghana. Beginning 2019, this partnership was extended to Uganda where Rotary and USAID have committed $4 million for a WASH Project over a period of three years (2019 - 2021). Under the collaboration, Rotary will focus on access to potable water; while USAID’s implementing partner - Sanitation for Health (S4H) will focus on sanitation and hygiene. The overall goal of the project is to improve water, sanitation and hygiene practices in targeted communities in 9 districts of Uganda including: Kitgum, Sembabule, Bukomansimbi, Gomba, Luuka, Jinja, Lwengo, Kyotera and Namutumba.

Job Summary:  The Project Driver is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of the RI-USAID project vehicle. His/her job is to safely transport staff, consultants, visitors, and materials to meetings of RI-USAID project sites. Project sites may be within Kampala city limits, or may be hundreds of kilometers away. The Driver will also maintain the project vehicle in good working order and safe operating condition. In preparing for trips outside of Kampala, the Driver is responsible for choosing the best and safest possible routes.
The driver will report to the Project Manager.

Job Summary:  The driver would be responsible for picking up and driving the project officials, pickups and other scheduled appointments. And also will be responsible for performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles to assure the functionality of the vehicle.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Safely transport persons and goods (70%)
  • Transport safely Malaria Consortium employees and goods as directed by the line manager
  • Always be in possession of a valid driving license and personal identification
  • Respect and observe the Nigeria traffic regulations, speed limits and adjust speed according to road and risk conditions (for example, when driving in villages or populated areas)
  • Observe Malaria Consortium standard operating procedures for vehicles
  • Observe the manufacturer technical conditions of use for all vehicles
  • Report any accident immediately to line manager and the nearest police station for purpose of insurance claims
  • Assist in loading and off-loading, and fetching water
  • Ensure safety of vehicles assigned to you at all times
  • Ensure passengers wear seat belts at all times
Vehicle maintenance and checklist for field trips (20%)
  • Responsible for daily and weekly preventive maintenance and report to the line manager any problems with vehicles
  • Ensure vehicles are always on full fuel tanks
  • Diligently and promptly update the movement and fuel consumption logbook
  • Furnish the logbook to the line manager as and when required to facilitate preparation of monthly vehicle and fuel consumption reports
  • Always ensure the vehicle insurance and licenses are valid before driving any vehicle
  • Alert line manager when service and maintenance schedules are due
  • Clean the vehicle inside and outside as and when necessary/ keep your vehicle clean externally and internally at all the times
  • Check that items mentioned in the logbook are in the vehicle before leaving
  • Perform daily vehicle pre-departure checks to include fuel, engine oil, coolant, lights, tyres, horn, tools and equipment, brakes, windows and mirrors, etc.
  • When a field trip is planned, the driver has to inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before leaving and be ready for scheduled departure time
  • The driver has also to prepare additional materials according to trip needs (for example, additional fuel tank, stickers, flag, medical and food kits, additional spare tyres)
  • Conduct daily, weekly and monthly vehicle check
  • Behave in a professional manner at all the times with the understanding that the public associates your behaviour with Malaria Consortium
  • Ensures the official vehicles are safely parked within the office environment and approved sites at all times
Security, communication and miscellaneous duties (10%)
  • Ensure the vehicle radio communication is in good working condition
  • Maintain regular radio communication with the base station while travelling away from the base. Radios should be switched on for communications at all times
  • Observe and ensure adherence with security guidelines in the programme area of operation
  • Assist Logistics Officer and colleagues in gathering security information analysis especially pertaining to routes to be travelled. To advise the logistician on the security of such routes and whether Malaria Consortium vehicle should travel or not on a given route
  • Promptly report all relevant security incidents/concerns to the Logistics Officer
  • Carry out other delegated tasks using Malaria Consortium vehicles. Theses may range from mail delivery, payment of bills, picking or dropping of staff or visitors and other similar tasks
  • Organise the assigned task in the most efficient and effective manner, so as to minimize vehicle use (fuel consumption, wear and tear)
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the Logistics Officer and any senior staff
  • Follow Malaria Consortium's security protocol at all times


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Job Summary:    The incumbent will drive authorized passengers, transport goods and services (information) and check the mechanical condition of the World Vision vehicle regularly and act accordingly in line with World Vision policies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Drive World Vision vehicles/authorized passengers to specified destinations as approved by the supervisor in line with World Vision vehicle usage policy.
  • Deliver packages, goods and mails and any other information to specified people, places and offices in line with World Vision policies.
  • Check the vehicle status/condition e.g. engine oil, water, nuts, battery water, license, Third Party Insurance, brakes, tyre pressure etc. prior to any journey and carry out regular vehicle repairs e.g. correcting hard start, tightening bolts and nuts, topping up battery water, etc. in line with World Vision policy. Maintain the hygiene of the vehicle
  • Report all major and minor damages and accidents on the vehicle at hand to the supervisor in line with World Vision vehicle policies.
  • Monitor the security of vehicle, authorized passengers and luggage in line with the vehicle policy.
  • Record and maintain a travel log to record areas travelled to, travel time, and work hours
  • Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean state at all times.
  • Prepare and submit vehicle monthly reports in line with the World Vision Vehicle Policy.
  • The driver shall strictly observe Traffic Rules and Regulation and maximum speed limit as prescribed by the traffic regulatory authority.
  • Observe and maintain the regular working hours and at all-time park the vehicle at the designated parking area.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the World Vision Bus Driver job placement should preferably hold an O’ Level certificate (Uganda Certificate of Education).
  • Holds a valid driving permit.
  • At least seven years of driving experience.
  • Ability to prioritize work in relation to need and urgency.
