About UNHCR:
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.

Job Summary: The Driver is responsible for up keep and maintenance of the assigned UNHCR vehicle(s) as per technical guidance and specifications established by the organization. He/She will be required to follow strict instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor. While the basic function of a driver is to drive the official vehicles of UNHCR, he/she may be called upon to perform minor maintenance and repair of UNHCR vehicles. The incumbent has regular contacts with staff within UNHCR office and with service providers outside UNHCR involving a limited exchange of information.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers and delivery and collection of mail, documents, UNHCR pouch and other items.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required
  • Carry out the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles; check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. and ensure that the assigned UNHCR vehicles are road worthy and maintained up to the established security standards.
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Key Performance Indicators:
  • Assigned UNHCR vehicles are properly maintained and equipped as per technical guidance and specifications established by the Organisation.
  • Local traffic rules and regulations are strictly observed.
  • Instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point are strictly followed by the Driver and the passengers during the journey


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNHCR Driver job placement should have completed Primary Education or equivalent technical or commercial school
  • Two years of previous job experience relevant to the function
  • Driving licence, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Good knowledge of English and knowledge of local language
  • Mechanical skills
  • Ability to work in remote areas.

Job Summary:  The Driver is responsible for safely transporting students and staff to and from school and related events. The incumbent is required to operate the passenger vehicle in accordance with the Operations Manager’s instructions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·         Pick up and drop off students and staff at designated locations
·         Ensure that all students who use the School bus service are on the bus in time for school and or related events.
·         Maintain discipline on the bus and reporting any disciplinary cases to the Operations Manager for follow up.
·         Ensure the safety of the passengers by preventing unauthorised persons getting on to the bus or vehicles, as well as using designated routes to and from School.
·         Tasked with maintaining cleanliness of the vehicles both inside and outside.
·         Taking note of and communicating to the School Mechanic when there is any need for vehicle maintenance or repair.
·         Immediately report any potential security threat to the Operations Manager
·         Quickly respond to feedback from the Operations Manager, through DriveCam, to ensure overall safety of the driver, passengers and vehicle. Carrying out other duties as requested by the Head of School


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·         The Driver must hold an Ordinary Level Certificate of Education is required.
·         Three years of driving experience is required with no record of at-fault traffic accidents
·         Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns
·         Must pass a medical and security check
·         Hold a clean and valid Driver’s License with classes B, CM, DL, DM, DH
·         Ability to speak English

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·         Drives staff delivers newspapers and parcels to various destinations as assigned.
·         Keeps the vehicle in the cleanest and top mechanical condition.
·         Monitors the distances covered book the vehicle for service and ensure it is serviced as required.
·         Maintains a work book for each assignment and logs in the distances covered.
·         Monitors the condition of the vehicle and reports defects for rectifying immediately.
·         Fuels the vehicle, takes care of tools and accessories.
·         Checks duty roaster route and vehicles assigned.
·         Sorts and loads parcels ensuring the first-in-last-out order for efficient drops en route
·         Signs off the loading strip list and leaves for destination within set deadlines.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·         The applicant must hold an O’ Level Certificate (Uganda Certificate of Education) or its equivalent
·         A valid driver’s license, with at least 2 classes e.g. CM or DL
·         Three to five years of working experience as a company driver
·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a very good command of English
·         High drive for results and ability to work with deadlines
·         Very high personal standards
·         Mechanical knowledge is an added advantage.
