Driver USAID Project Jobs - Education Development Center (EDC)

About USAID Project:

The goal of the five-year, USAID-funded Integrated Child and Youth Development (ICYD) Activity is for Ugandan children and youth, especially the most vulnerable, to receive the support and services necessary to lead resilient, healthy, and productive lives.

 

Job Summary:  The Driver will provide transport services, administrative and other logistical support to USAID/Uganda- ICYD Activity staff, visitors and stakeholders in accordance with EDC’s fleet management policy guidelines and procedures. This position reports to the Logistics Manager. This is a full-time position based in Mbarara, Uganda, but will be required to work with cross functional teams within the organization across the country.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·        Provide transportation, using EDC vehicles, of goods, staff and other authorized passengers in accordance with EDC policies and procedures;

·        Daily operation and maintenance the vehicle assigned to the driver in a manner that ensures the highest degree of safety possible for the vehicle and its passengers;

·        Keep accurate and up to date records using the vehicle and fuel log sheets provided;

·        Inspect and be vigilant at all times for the detection of any faults and/or damage to the assigned vehicle, whether accidental or otherwise, and submit a written report of such faults and damage as soon as possible to the Supervisor;

·        Ensure that EDC policies and procedures for safe vehicle operation and risk mitigation, such as proper use of door locks, parking in secure locations and timing of trips, are followed;

·        Submit to the Supervisor the monthly vehicle utilization report summarizing vehicle/fuel use and vehicle repair/maintenance. This report will be accompanied by the fuel and vehicle log sheets for the period of the report;

·        Prepare and submit the Weekly Control Sheet to the Supervisor for review and schedule repairs and maintenance as necessary;

·        Willing to accept additional responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Supervisor.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        The ideal candidate for the Education Development Center (EDC) Driver job must hold a UCE certificate or its equivalent, proof of training in defensive driving and basic computer skills.

·        Must have a valid driver’s license with all classes and a safe driving record with no traffic violations;

·        At least five years of experience as a professional driver with a reputable organization; experience working on a USAID financed project is a plus;

·        Good awareness and commitment to follow all local and national driving laws, rules and regulations;

·        High level of integrity and attention to detail;

·        Ability to proficiently read, speak and write in English;

·        Experience driving four-wheel drive vehicles and driving on unpaved rural roads;

·        Practical experience in maintaining vehicles and conducting minor repairs;

·        Ability to make frequent up-country travels, often long-distance and sometimes overnight;

·        Must have excellent inter-personal skills;

·        Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations such as road accidents, bad weather conditions and impatient drivers;

·        Must be reliable, dependable, flexible and willing to work beyond routine hours;

·        Previous training in safe vehicle operation/defensive driving preferred.

·        Language:  Fluency in English is required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·        To ensure that at all times the vehicle has the necessary documents permitting it to be on the road, such as insurance cover, third party license and log books including personal driver’s licences.

·        To maintain a very high standard regarding the cleanliness and general appearance of the car.

·        To monitor fuel refills at gas stations and ensure proper records are made for fuel card

·        deductions by the gas station staff.

·        To report any accidents and or damage to vehicles, however minor, to line manager and log them in the accident report form.

·        To keep an accurate record of all vehicle equipment that may be within the vehicle.

·        To perform general and regular daily checks on the vehicle to ensure the vehicle is in proper mechanical and body condition, thus road worthy and safe.

·        To ensure that all emergency equipment such as car jack, spare tyre, wheel spanner, first aid box and jumper cables are all available in the car.

·        To thoroughly inspect cars before long journeys to ensure the car is fit for the journey.

·        To observe due dates for servicing the vehicles, consult and update your supervisor in

·        advance to allow time to schedule it in.

·        To adhere to the guiding principles spelt out in the code of conduct for drivers for Watoto Group.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        The applicant for the Watoto Driver job role should hold an Advanced Level Certificate.

·        At least five years of working experience.

·        Ability to drive in a safe manner according to local and international, knowledge of defence driving, basic traffic signs and regulations.

·        Demonstrates ability to diagnose and fix simple mechanical problems and report major

·        mechanical problems.

·        Excellent knowledge of the city and major motorways in Uganda.

Job Summary:  The overall responsibilities of the driver are to ensure the program vehicle is well maintained and serviced at all times and to drive program staff to different program locations, carry out simple purchases and run other office errands assigned to him/her. Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·        To drive program staff to the program area and carry out any other duties assigned by the Finance & Administration Assistant or his/her designate

·        Ensure there is safe driving of the vehicle at all times, using defensive driving techniques

·        To carry out preventive maintenance of the vehicle and report to the Finance & Administration Assistant about the status of the vehicle

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        The ideal candidate must hold a UCE (O level) certificate

·        The driver should have undergone driving training from a licensed driving school

·        Must be in possession of a valid and clean driving license (minimum class B)

·        Must possess a good driving record

·        A defensive driving certificate and some mechanic knowledge will be an added advantage

·        Must have driving experience of at least 8 years with a minimum of 3 years in an NGO setting

·        Experience in driving cars that use both manual and automatic transmission a MUST

·        Experience in vehicle mechanics and in defensive driving is an added advantage

·        Experience providing logistical support in a busy organization

·        Must be a mature Christian, able to cope with cross-cultural and denominational diversities

·        An energetic, flexible and proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team setting

·        Well organized and efficient in time management whenever there is task pressure

Job Summary:  The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Driver for the SEARCH SAPPHIRE study to be based in South Western Uganda. The Successful candidate will report to the Finance & Administrative Coordinator.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·        To provide safe, comfortable and reliable transportation for staff. This includes ensuring that safety belts are worn at all times, there is no smoking in the vehicle and that no alcohol is consumed before driving

·        To transport supplies to various destinations as required.

·        To keep the vehicle in good mechanical and functional condition including but not confined to regular fueling, servicing and cleaning of the interior and exterior.

·        To perform regular preventive maintenance and minor repairs where possible.

·        Ensure maximum security of vehicle and its accessories under your charge.

·        Ensure safety of passengers and cargo under your charge.

·        Monitor condition and performance of vehicle and promptly report to supervisor.

·        Carry out minor repairs and adjustments on the vehicle and maintain its cleanliness.

·        Take vehicle for servicing as per mileage reading and repairs as directed by your supervisor.

·        Submit monthly reports on vehicle movements and mechanical conditions using a template provided by the supervisor.

·        To ensure that all required documentation for administrative use such as mileage, fuel usage and trip authorization tracking information is kept up to date at all times in the prescribed manner.

·        To ensure that all dues are met in good time and/or regularly renewed e.g. Third party and Comprehensive Insurance, Parking Fees, Registration and Licenses.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        The ideal candidate must hold a Diploma or Certificate in a related field or O&A level certificates.

·        Basic training in Motor-vehicle mechanics.

·        Three to five years’ progressive working experience in a similar setting with a valid driving permit.

·        Should be able to drive both manual and automatic vehicles.

·        Defensive driving certificate is a must.

·        Experience handling sensitive project supplies, samples and information amongst others.

·        Ability to work long hours and in a Team.

·        Experience handling sensitive project supplies, samples, working in hard to reach areas.
