About UNHCR Project:
HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR in Uganda is implementing a multi-sectoral Program for refugees in Oruchinga settlement (Isingiro district), Nakivale settlement (Isingiro district), Nyakabande Transit Center (Kisoro district) and Kyangwali Settlement (Hoima District).

Job Summary:  The Child Protection Officer is responsible for leading a small team in identifying, assessing, and managing cases of children at risk. The role involves working directly with vulnerable children who are at risk of harm or abuse, as well as working with their families and carers, to introduce measures to improve family behavior and protect children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide technical guidance and direction for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of agreed child protection interventions
  • Lead a small team to ensure protection of children from all forms of abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect working closely with children, their families and communities.
  • Ensure proper child protection case management including information management.
  • Implement Child Protection policies, BID and BIA procedures, and existing SOPs (including fraud prevention SOPs)
  • Ensure that BID reports are in compliance with UNHCR protection principles as well as best international practice and organize BID Panels.
  • Prepare quality and timely child protection reports on a weekly, monthly and Quarterly basis
  • Promote meaningful child participation throughout the project.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the HIJRA Child Protection Officer job opportunity must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field.
  • Three years of work experience in the same field of development and humanitarian work and NGOs.
  • Previous experience working with children including interviewing and communicating with children
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting & writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skill and communication skills.
  • An excellent command of verbal and written English.

Internship Jobs - Monitoring & Evaluation Officer - Junior EU Aid Volunteer - Danish Refugee Council (DRC)

The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.

Job Summary:  Before deployment to DRC Uganda, the selected EU Aid Volunteer will complete a 2 months apprenticeship in DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark from May to June 2019. The apprenticeship will provide a solid grounding in DRC’s organizational mandate, values and ways of working; relevant technical and sectoral areas of work; the in-country development and humanitarian context; roles, responsibilities and expectations for Volunteers, mentors and line managers; communications, human resources and security policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Programmatic support:
  • Support MEAL team with setting up MEAL systems for program activities;
  • Support the application of established Quality Benchmarks in project activities;
  • Participate in implementation planning alongside the project team as well as project/program reviews and reflection sessions;
  • Participate in Accountability activities and supporting the functioning of the accountability mechanism including documentation of beneficiary feedback mechanism;
  • Assist the MEAL team with simple ad-hoc map production and visualisation.
Support monitoring and evaluation effort of projects:
  • Logistical and administrative support for monitoring/data collection visits;
  • Participating in data collection in the field, data entry and data analysis as required;
  • Support the collection of material (including GPS points and photos) for documenting case studies and success stories as well as voices of beneficiaries;
  • Participate in production of reports by using data collected through monitoring activities.
Support in data management systems:
  • Assist with setting up of data management systems; including supporting roll-out of databases as well as designing and developing data collection tools and setting data analysis plans.
Support documentation of learning and knowledge management initiative:
  • Support documentation of learning through production of learning products such as success stories, lessons learned and learning briefs;
  • Assist with facilitating reflection opportunities, including meetings and workshops towards developing a strong learning culture;
  • Organize brown bag seminars with staff to digest lessons from analysis and to deepen reflection on achievements and failures that serve to improve program /project design including tracking application of lessons Learned;
  • Contribute to drafting learning papers that capture lessons from DRC work and maintain Lessons learned database.
Any other activity as reasonably requested by the supervisor:
  • Undertake other duties that may be required by the Head of programs, Program Quality Assurance Manager, MEAL Specialist;
  • Participate to field mission and act as rapoutré, whenever necessary.
  • The position duties are flexible to a degree to allow the candidate to develop skills they personally identify. This can be arranged in discussions with the line manager.
Project development:
  • 10% of the EUAV time will be allocated for communication tasks, to demonstrate the value added and impact of the EU Aid Volunteers initiative and its different actions, and the professional contribution of EU Aid Volunteers. This will be implemented through specific channels discussed with the communications officer.
  • Get in touch with the ECHO's RIOs (Regional Information Officers) to, previously approved by the line manager, share information about HOPE and the experience to be an EU Aid Volunteer.
  • Develop one story from the field (an anecdotal story about their experience/work/ impact) produced during the assignment that may be uploaded into the network for use by sending/hosting organisation and the European Union for communication purposes.
  • Conference/workshop participation: Where appropriate, contribute to sharing experiences of life as an EU Aid Volunteer at conference/workshops organised by sending or hosting organisations and the European Commission.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer should have recently completed Masters Degree/Post Graduate Degree within Social Sciences, M&E, Statistics, IT, Geography or Geoinformatics;
  • Excellent data analysis skills, especially for quantitative/qualitative data, including knowledge of statistical programs;
  • Excellent level of English (spoken - written - reading);
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Knowledge of how to use research, GIS, photography and digital work to influence a program quality agenda.
  • Strong organisational skills / Rigor / Ability to classify and to manage priorities;
  • Capacity to take initiatives and propose innovative solutions;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and be respectful;

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The Senior Social Site Supervisor is responsible for supervising and overseeing the site team and ensuring all aspects related to operations in the Community are handled by a team of Community Liaison Officers, Community Development Officers, Awango Officers and Grievance Officers.
  • The Job holder coordinates all engagement with local communities, civil society, local leaders and tourism stakeholders through the social site team. This also includes supervising the facilitation of mitigation measures identified in the Environmental Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) including the ongoing land acquisition and resettlement activities for both temporary and permanent land, the management of grievances and the control of contractors and, if necessary, their subcontractors.
  • Providing support to ensure ESIA, RAP and any other survey teams gain entry into and work within the communities;
  • Monitoring the implementation of the social impact management plans by project teams and contractors
  • Identifying unanticipated impacts, reporting these to the Company and the Government through the Responsible for Safety on Site (RSES) and the Social Affairs Coordinator.
  •  Ensure all grievances being handled by the CTLO's are handled adequately, closed and handle as well as ensuring other emerging issues are handled without having to defer them issues to Kampala.
  • Understanding the social clauses in contractors and subcontractors contracts & monitor relations between Total’s contractors/sub-contractors and local communities;
  • Ensure necessary monitoring, reporting and feedback of activities through regular reporting on Total’s social performance. To monitor and report on compliance with the social clauses of contracts, as well as the overall standards of the Total Group including Total’s Code of Conduct, Ethics charter, and Health Safety Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Charter.

Job Summary:  The WPE Assistant Prevention Officer (APO) will lead the implementation of a GBV prevention strategy to support refugees and host community women and girls living in Mbarara/Nakivale. He/She will collaborate and guide the WPE volunteers, conduct a range of outreaches and implement a set of adolescent and livelihood interventions aimed to respond to the needs of adolescent girls and women. Selected APOs will also partake in male engagement activities to further involve men and boys in WPE programming and outreach efforts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Design and monitor GBV prevention activities, ensuring these activities are informed by target beneficiaries and correspond to their priorities and safety.
  • Conduct training and dialogues with WPE volunteers, Women committees, male & female community leaders, and key informants on the topics of GBV, women’s rights, gender equality in line with priorities identified by women and girls.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to disseminate information on services available to women and girls and raise awareness with the Community Volunteers and the Women Committees.
  • Support roll out of new initiatives e.g. EMAP, Girl Shine, SASA! etc while tracking progress on implementation and engagement of targeted clients.
  • Support capacity building and coordination activities by delivering training sessions to GBV service providers on GBV core concepts and guiding principles, safety audit and service mapping tools, reporting and advocacy skills, and community mobilization.
  • Implement prevention and community-based advocacy initiatives based on identified needs and Safety Audit reports that reflect the voices of women and girls.
  • Implement prevention programs and conduct dialogues with male community members.
  • Facilitate Information Sessions (IS), Door-to Door outreaches, Focus Group Discussions (FDGs), Awareness Sessions (AS), and other sessions for women and girls at the Women Center and via mobile teams.
  • Implement Adolescent Girls Programming including facilitation of the IRC adolescent girls curriculum and other planned activities, selection of target girls, relationship building with key gatekeepers and monitoring of activities.
  • Work closely with WPE Social Workers to provide targeted psychosocial support to adolescent girls to promote the development of their social and economic assets and to better protect them from violence as they transition into adulthood.
  • Work with families, caregivers and communities to support in building and strengthening a more protective environment for adolescent girls and by providing parenting skills trainings.
  • Collaborate with finance and logistics to ensure program supplies and resources are available in a timely manner to support program implementation.
  • Update and maintain work and spending plans that support the achievement of activities.
  • Constantly monitor activity implementation, compile daily & weekly reports, and attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Attend WPE and IRC meetings and trainings as needed and as requested by senior staff.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) WPE Assistant Prevention Officer job must hold a University degree in social sciences (i.e. sociology, psychology, gender studies, law, human rights, etc.).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in working in the social sector, particularly working with refugee and IDP populations.
  • Experience working in humanitarian responses targeting vulnerable women and girls.
  • Experience conducting participatory trainings on women’s protection and empowerment.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills and ability to present ideas effectively, in both oral and written form.
