Job Summary:    The Livelihood Assistants – Imvepi will implement day to day activities, according to the budgets and work plans in line with the donor and World Vision Uganda (WVU) policies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Project implementation and reporting
  • Promote the use of modern farming practice and techniques through training, advising farmers, farm visits and demonstrations so as to transform targeted families from subsistence to commercial farmers in line with GoU policy.
  • Participatory selection of beneficiaries, prioritization of cash for work activities, life skills awareness raising, and capacity building of the groups.
  • Promote Resilience and Livelihoods programme model for faster adoption of improved farming technologies towards building secure livelihoods for the marginal poor.
  • Participate in Resilience and Livelihood planning, budgeting, implementation and monitoring of progress.
  • Mobilize and facilitate the engagements of stakeholders during planning and development meetings, workshops and other fora.
Community engagement and advocacy
  • Identify project beneficiaries in collaboration with Local structures and in accordance with the laid down guidelines/rules and timeframe.
  • Coordinate project activities with sub-county authorities, government extension agents and other partners at community level.
  • Ensure Small holder farmers’ groups are mobilized, organized and strengthened into strong business groups/ for bulk purchase of inputs, value addition, bulking and collective marketing of produce
  • Develop the farmer's capacity to improve production and productivity of selected enterprises of desired quality
Documentation, Reporting and knowledge management
  • Document and maintain records pertaining to training, production activities forward issues to management for decisions and appropriate action in line with WVU policies.
  • Write up accurate and timely reports pertaining to all planned activities in the required format and submit to the Livelihood Officer/Project Coordinator
  • Ensure Care givers/Foster parents of unaccompanied Refugee children are members of farmer business groups/cooperatives and are accessing business developments services.
  • Participate in monthly / quarterly reflection meetings with Child Monitors and guardians/parents and child protection committees to address findings from monitoring.
Child Protection and Wellbeing
  • Monitor the wellbeing and child abuse cases and report any incidents in line with child protection policy and guidelines.
  • Work closely with local leaders to protect children from child violations and abuses
  • Sensitize children including most vulnerable, guardians/parents and other stakeholders about children’s rights and responsibilities.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the World Vision Livelihood Assistant job opportunity must hold a diploma in agriculture or agribusiness or forestry or any other relevant discipline.
  • One to two years of experience in community work and engagement Agricultural, Economic Development and Livelihood is and added advantage
  • Experience of the local context of West Nile is an added advantage
  • Experience in Cash for Work, Entrepreneurship, micro finance and strong agribusiness skills
  • Outstanding knowledge of facilitation/training skills and process skills

USAID/Uganda is planning a new $10-25M program, the Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity, which will seek to increase incomes and improve the livelihoods of Ugandan households through agricultural-led inclusive economic growth. With a focus on creating efficiencies in cross-market functions, the Activity will facilitate sustainable market improvements that influence systemic changes and create opportunities for more inclusive market actor engagement. The Activity will use a market systems approach to drive change through increasing institutional capacity and creating and aligning incentives at three key entry points: market actor organizations, the agro-industry and agribusinesses, and government institutions and agencies. Consequently, the Activity will strengthen key elements of the agricultural market that support new firm entry and firm growth in pursuit of consistent and inclusive provision of competitive goods and services demanded by actors. The Activity will also strengthen enabling environment systems and structures that enhance public sector investment in development and create opportunities for others to engage, particularly the private sector.

Job Summary:  The Agro-Processing Specialist will drive the design, implementation, and client relationship management of agro-processor-level interventions which will increase transformation and upgrading of agricultural commodities in Uganda.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the TechnoServe (TNS) Agro-Processing Specialist job opportunity should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Economics, Business or related area, or equivalent experience in food market systems. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of professional experience in food market systems, including experience working in the private sector
  • Deep private sector experience, including in a manufacturing setting, preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the food processing sector, with knowledge of relevant topics, such as: food production and processing, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), worker safety, finance for growing businesses, and food systems value chain development.
  • Proven track record in providing technical and/or business solutions to food processors, with experience implementing or advising on smallholder sourcing models.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender and youth issues in agriculture or market systems.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
  • Professional experience working in Sub-Saharan African contexts; experience working in Uganda strongly preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills and good computer skills in business software (Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint).

Operational Performance

Control
  • Identification and assessment of  risks facing security thereby providing effective loss and risk management and so minimising the operational risks

Occupational Safety and Security
  • Ensure all business units are adequately and appropriately secured by means of alarms, guards where necessary, bullet proof glass, access restriction devices, CCTV, etc.
  • Check that all security systems are functional and are regularly tested in line with Group Security Standards.
  • Support the conducting of investigations for all incidents for reporting to Directorate of Occupational Health.
Project Management
  • Ensure the analysis, due process and implementation of security projects

  • Supports the National Security Officer in conducting physical security survey of offices, vehicles and staff residences to ensure compliance to Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) and Residential Security Measures (RSM)
  • Supports the National Security Officer in following up staff member’s compliance with existing safety and security protocols including completion of the mandatory Security training and obtaining security clearances as required.
  • Organize and deliver training courses on security awareness and preparedness and provide security orientation to visitors and newly assigned staff.

  • Support the National Security Officer in conducting fire drills and other emergency/ evacuation planning exercises.
