Principal Legal Officer Job Opportunities - Centenary Bank

Job Summary:  The Principal Legal Officer will mainly prepare and review legal documents, conduct research, provide legal advice and represent the bank in legal matters in line with best practice and bank standards of legal risk management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Draft and review contracts entered into by the Bank in its operations including but not limited to procurement of goods, services and engagement with partners in line with set turnaround timelines.
  • Conduct legal research and provide legal advice and guidance for proactive compliance of the Bank with new legislation and best practices impacting the operating environment.
  • Draft, review and approve documentation for provision of loans and advances to Bank customers and perfection and registration of such documents in compliance with relevant legislation for enforceability in courts of law.
  • Prepare reports in line with internal guidelines and advise on appropriate legal risk and performance management measures and action.
  • Offer legal advice/opinions and prepare responses to notices of intention to sue from customers or their legal representatives to redress customers or enforce bank’s rights
  • Represent the Bank in courts of law and the Legal Division at Management Committee meetings.
  • Review investigation reports, enquiries and internal audit findings and make recommendations for appropriate legal action to redress/safeguard the Bank.
  • Support Management in monitoring and reporting internal and external compliance performance.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Centenary Bank Principal Legal Officer job placement should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law
  • Post graduate diploma in Legal practices
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications will provide additional advantage
  • Four years of post-enrolment experience with at least 2 years in a Banking environment (applicant’s with similar experience from other private or public entities will be considered)

Job Summary: The Legal Advisor will be required to provide legal services to Kray Microfinance’s Management and staff in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures and the laws of Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Providing prompt and accurate legal advice to the staff and Management of Kray on issues concerning the organization’s operations in line with the Law and company policies.
  • Drafting agreements which are to be executed by Kray and ensuring that the company’s interests are protected.
  • Reviewing contracts drafted by Kray’s external service providers & other partners and advising on the effect of the terms therein on Kray.
  • Conducting research and preparing comprehensive Legal opinions.
  • Preparing loan and mortgage documentation & registering Kray’s interests on the documents of title of securities pledged by clients in the respective registries.
  • Verifying securities presented by clients
  • Designing recovery procedures for bad loans and participating in debt recovery.
  • Drafting court documentation
  • Representing the company in courts of Law and preparing litigation status reports.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold an Honour’s degree in Law from a recognized University
  • Post graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre
  • Enrolled Advocate for at least 2 (two) years
  • Valid practicing certificate
  • He/She should possess prior experience of at least 2 years in dealing with loans, investment and other financial related transactions

About URA:
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) was established by the Uganda Revenue Authority Statute of 1991 and set up in September of the same year as a central body for assessment and collection of specified revenue, to administer and enforce the laws relating to such revenue and to provide for related matters. This statute incorporated all the laws that were in force then regarding tax collection. The new organization (URA) amalgamated the three tax administration departments that were responsible for all the taxes collected by the Central Government of Uganda.

Job Summary:   The Officer Board Affairs and Policy Rulings will give legal advice to both internal and external stakeholders, draft contracts/agreements and participate in the amendment of URA policies and tax laws in order to streamline the flow of the URA business.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·         The applicants for the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Officer Board Affairs and Policy Rulings job opportunities should hold honors Degrees in Law from a recognized University
·         Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
·         At least two years of experience in handling litigation in a large organization or busy law firm.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide legal advice relating to civil disputes and criminal cases, locate, interview and guide witnesses.

  • Good communication, organization and public relations skills.
  • Good knowledge of basic computer applications.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in legal research.
