UEGCL’s key role is to - carry on the business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets - Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in technical and related fields, amongst others.

Job Summary: The Shift Assistant will manage the plant operations; start-up, loading and shutdown generations units to maintain production according to requirements from the Dispatch Engineers while observing plant technical limits and safety of plant and equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Control of Active and Reactive Power, control of Voltage, current, generator winding temperature, turbine and generator bearing temperatures etc.
  • Responsible for Start, Run, Synchronize, Load, shutdown of turbine generators as per instructions of the Shift Charge Engineer.
  • Monitor Plant operation at all times and incase of System disturbance, normalize the system through safe and accepted switching procedures.
  • Monitor and record meter and instrument readings in the control room and other equipment’s as required.
  • Performs all switching that can be done from control room and instruct the plant attendant if any to carry out switching in the power house according to his instructions.
  • Monitor and Report alarms, trips, faults, abnormalities as they are picked up by the control room computers or the station and remote automated signalization instrumentation.
  • To monitor and Record instrument indications at requisite intervals or as they bring in alarms.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant for the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL) Shift Assistant job placement must hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronic engineering or equivalent from a recognized Institution of higher learning.
  • At least two years of relevant experience of working in a similar position.

Job Summary: The Stores Officer will be responsible and accountable for the consistent maintenance of store stock, processes, and procedures. Hence work with finance manager, operations and maintenance managers to ensure the correct materials are available in the correct location, at the correct time.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Receive requisitions from user departments and issue stores materials, to ensure accurate accountability of all transactions to and from the stores.
  • To ensure delivery of materials to site or collection from suppliers is undertaken and monitored against a performance criteria.
  • To raise purchase orders for materials in line with procedures, standing orders and financial regulations.
  • To facilitate periodic checks of the quantities of materials held in stock, including imprest stocks held at sites in accordance with standing orders.
  • Manage the use of all plant and hand tools servicing, repair and maintaining inventory, and replenishment accountability.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the working/stores area, to ensure the stores area is kept clean and tidy and free from hazards.
  • Analysis of the aging stocks and communicate to management about obsolete Stock.
  • Prepare reports identifying regular moving stock items. Identify items, estimate usage and costs.
  • Maintain minimum/maximum stock levels in accordance with agreed stock holding policies and ensure that replenishment items are ordered in time whilst taking into account lead times.
  • Manage and supervise annual and ad-hoc stock taking exercises, as required by Financial
  • Regulations.  


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Job Summary: The Manager Production, Planning & Water Resources Management will provide expertise required to plan and manage water resources for Hydropower development, production , reservoir and river systems management

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Modeling
  • Assess Water resources requirements and sustainability of catchments where current and planned power stations are / shall be located.
  • Establish or review Hydrodynamic models (water quality, sediment transportation, etc.) and include any remedial actions in power plant maintenance
  • Periodic review of Hydrological models (e.g. Rainfall to runoff models) for existing power plants and establishment of such models for proposed projects
  • Assess and evaluate impacts of Climate Change in water resources       availability and hydropower
  • Establish/ Review other Water uses-Energy-Food nexus for existing and proposed water resources / catchments
  • Periodic Evaluation of environmental constraints for the operation of reservoir and energy production
Hydrological/Energetic studies
  • Conduct hydrological forecasts
  • Generate synthetic inflow scenarios using optimization techniques such as Stochastic Dual Dynamic Programming (SDDP).
  • Carry out Hydroelectric studies for designing of hydropower plants (installed capacity determination)
  • Establish routines to ensure river and reservoir Data, recording, accuracy, analysis and ensure a robust long term storage of such data is in place.
Studies for the determination of water demands.
  • Carry out studies and projections for the determination of short term water demands for power production
  • Advice Management on economic opportunities and risks related to integrated use of water.
  • Evaluation of Economic and risks in relation to the all rules and regulations governing water use for energy production
  • Development/Establish and install a suitable ICT based decision support tools to assist Power plant operators and management to manage and optimize water resources for power production
  • Advise the power plant operators on strategies to optimally dispatch power plants for short-term power demands (day-ahead demand, energy balancing and optimization etc.) with interfaces to real-time dispatch centre of the system operator / customer;
  • Work in close conjunction with other key stakeholders, establish an Integrated environmental, business agricultural, industrial and energy analysis for the river systems where power plants are located and the planned power stations
Dam Safety functions
  • Represent the company on both local and international associations regarding Dam Safety
  • Establish and lead the Dam safety and Emergency Response Unit for all UEGCL Dams
  • Compliance to international standard and national regulations on dam safety inspections, evaluation and reporting
  • Ensure all required remedial measures required to maintain the safety of dams, tunnels, caverns and associated safety hydraulic structures are part of the maintenance plans for the power stations
  • Identify opportunities and recommend to management opportunities associated with improvements in the use of dams in relation to current and future hydrological patterns.
  • Perform all other prudent functions required to maintain the safety of dams



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant for the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL) Manager Production, Planning & Water Resources Management job placement must hold a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a major in Hydrology, Water Resources or Hydropower.
  • Engineering registration with ERB is an added advantage
  • Seven years of relevant working experience, with 3 years in a senior position. 
  • Must have extensive appreciation of water resources for hydropower Operation and other competing uses.  
  • Experience in multi-water reservoir and river system optimization modelling.
  • Knowledge of operational hydrology and energy projections based on historical and future water flows, global weather systems.       
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.                    
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.  
  • Ability to interpret Civil Engineering Drawings     
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD                    
  • Knowledge of Engineering Standards        
  • Excellent presentations and communication skills

Job Summary: The Mechanical Technician will ensure that the mechanical elements in the power plant are maintained according to set maintenance standard and as per the planned maintenance schedules or as instructed by the supervisor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for reading and interpreting technical assembly drawings, schematics etc. required for repair and maintenance.
  • Conferring with other technicians and personnel of the power plant to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information for improvement of maintenance.
  • Install, test and commission mechanical machinery, equipment, systems and processes to meet the requirements of the power plant.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principals to design and make changes to installations with a view to improving performance or providing a solution to a problem- engineering solutions.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and come up with recommendations for maintenance crew.
  • Oversee installation all routine maintenance and repairs at the power plant and make reports to the maintenance engineer for the planning of long outages and overhauls.
  • Ensuring that safety precautions are followed in the place of work.
  • Provides engineering support by responding to requests for electrical problems.
  • Complies with codes by adhering to requirements; advising senior management on needed actions.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking Mechanical material stock to determine inventory levels; anticipating needed supplies.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant for the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL) Mechanical Technician job placement must hold a Higher National Technical Diploma in mechanical engineering, production engineering, manufacturing engineering or similar. 
  • Post graduate certificates in other fields of engineering such as mechatronics, automation etc. is an added advantage.     
  • Three years of working at a power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant, a major repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position.
  • Ability to interpret Mechanical Engineering Drawings
  • Familiar with installation practice, testing and commissioning of field civil instrumentation such strain gauges, piezometers etc

Job Summary: The Shift Supervisor will manage plant operations within the plant, ensuring production continuity while observing safety of staff and equipment (within operating technical limits)

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Coordination of communications between the load dispatch Centre and the power station.
  • Shall carry out switching as authorized in the Plant Operations Manuals or as may be instructed by the Operations Manager on a need arise basis.
  • Responsible for issuing switching Instructions, safety instructions and isolation of work area prior to Issuing Permit to work.
  • Responsible for accurate data collection, storage and information distribution to relevant authorities.
  • Ensures quality of Power generation through Voltage, Frequency and Vars Control/Regulations- Active and Reactive Power management.
  • Supervision of personnel safety, reporting of all hazardous events and accidents.
  • Responsible for preparation of Shift handover Report in accordance with protocol and giving a verbal brief of status of power Station, Permits in operation/not yet cancelled and the Events during his Shift.
  • Ensures Collection storage and distribution of generation data including Hydrological data.
  • Supervise Operation and regular inspection of all Plant and auxiliaries and any other equipment and installations such as water treatment plant, Fire Hydrant etc.
  • Record and compile operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports.
  • Carry out emergency operations such as switching on standby emergency electrical generators, isolation of loads, switching on and off Units etc. to ensure safety of generation plant.
  • Receive outage calls and requests necessary personnel during power outages or emergencies.
  • Perform any other duties as might be assigned by the operations Manager or as instructed by Management


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal applicant for the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL) Shift Supervisor job placement must hold an upper second Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering. Successful Applicants will undergo intensive Training in power plant Operation at various locations prior to deployment.
