What We Do
EarthEnable is transforming the way people live, by making homes healthier for families across EastAfrica. 65% of Ugandans live in homes with dirt floors which are dusty, unsanitary, and fertile breeding grounds for parasites and germs. While replacing a dirt floor with concrete has significant health benefits (e.g. reducing diarrhea by 50% and parasitic infections by 80%), concrete is unaffordable for many who need it.

EarthEnable addresses this pressing and ubiquitous problem by selling high-quality, earthen floorsthat are 70% cheaper than concrete with 90% less embedded energy. Earthen floors are already prevalent in modern homes in the United States and are composed of natural materials (gravel, clay, sand, and laterite). EarthEnable trains and hires local masons to install the floors which are sealed using a proprietary drying oil that makes them waterproof, strong, and polished.

Job Summary:  We are looking for an experienced and organized District Manager who will lead day-to-day operations in and strategize for scaling within a district. The job will involve overseeing office and field operations (in construction and sales), managing the district budget, and providing regular input to the district team as well as senior management to hone and improve EarthEnable's service delivery within the district. The primary role of the District Manager is to coordinate the work of the district team, and to build their capacity for even higher achievement. This District Manager will receive supervision and guidance from the Uganda Managing Director. This is a field-oriented leadership position, with a consistent blend of office and fieldwork. The successful candidate will be willing to get his or her hands dirty and work closely with masons and sales reps, while having an eye for the bigger picture and growth projections of the company. We are looking for someone who is adept at detailed planning, a quick learner, and an entrepreneurial self- starter.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Strategic Planning and Execution
·         Work with Uganda Managing Director to develop scale strategy and set operational, sales, and financial targets for the district
·         Manage execution of strategy in marketing, sales, construction and ensure strategies are aligned and coordinated across departments to avoid inconsistencies or overlap in work streams within the district
·         Take ownership of all district-specific projects and deliverables
·         Get out to customer sites to ensure adequate communication of messages and efficient construction procedures at least once a week
·         Actively seek the support of department managers for systems development, team capacity building, and problem solving
Financial Management
·         Ultimate profit and loss responsibility for the district: drive revenue to cover operational costs, working closely with the finance department to analyze budgets and actuals across various units
·         Ensure fiscal responsibility in all the district's budgets and spending, prioritizing cost cutting and cost saving
District Oversight
·         Together with the district staff and senior management, set targets for all departments
·         Ensure that the district is reaching those targets
·         Report regularly to the senior management team, including participation in management meetings at the head office
·         Build capacity of the district staff to lead their functions independently through active management, teaching, and support

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·         5+ years of experience with at least 2-5 years of experience in a management role (general management preferred) - entry level candidates should not apply
·         Experience in at least two different functions (sales and marketing, finance, construction, customer care, etc.)
·         A Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration, project management, logistics and operations, or engineering
·         Passionate about EarthEnable's impact and committed to making a difference in the lives of rural Ugandans
·         Clear communication skills
·         Excellent managerial skills with a strong drive to develop the capacity of others and to motivate them
·         Strong teaching skills and patience as a manager, coach, and teacher, analytical and critical thinker with a strong ability to problem-solve and to coach others to do so
·         Able to make clear reports and presentations both to lower-level staff and senior managers
·         Strong knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) Flexible and adaptable; equally comfortable in a rural village building a floor, at an office training staff, and in the Mayor's office.

Daily Basis:

·         Safe & Cashbook checking: at the end of each day, the cashbook and the safe should be checked and the balance should correspond;

Monthly Basis:

·         Cashbook & SAGA: cashbook and SAGA should be checked before closing the accounting month;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Job Summary:  The Projects Accountant will assist the Senior Projects Accountant to manage both the financial and administrative function in the Projects Accounts office in the most efficient manner so as to implement the ISDB funded projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The incumbent will capture available accounting data in to the system for the ultimate purpose of producing Project Final Accounts for the ongoing Donor Funded Projects.
  • Capture Contractor Invoices/Certificates into the Accounting System.
  • Capture Available counterpart funding expenses in to the Accounting System.
  • Coding Data and categorizing the expenditure captured according to the agreed categories.
  • Generating the necessary Financial Statements for review.
  • Preparation of Financial input to Quarterly Reports for the Projects; Assist in Preparation of Donor Accountability Reports.
  • Generate Accurate Financial information for the quarterly reports.
  • Agree on forecasts for the next expenditure period as required in the financial manuals
  • Assist in preparation of Project Payments in accordance with disbursement policies pertaining to each Loan portfolio/GoU regulations.

  • Identify, develop and maintain Main Contractor Management Schedules in accordance with laid down Payment procedures and contractual obligations.

  • Monitor Contractual obligations; contract and guarantee expiry, payment terms etc.

  • Prepare expenditure categorization ready for replenishments.
  • Obtain quarterly, bi-annual fund requirements from Project coordination for input in replenishment requests.
  • Organize Expenditure Justifications as attachments to support replenishment applications.
  • Assist in coordination of External Audit of the Projects
  • Avail expenditure supporting documentation to external Auditors including counterpart expenditure supporting documentation during Audit of Projects.
  • Offer appropriate explanations to External Auditors on Disbursement issues. And carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Projects Accountant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Administration or Finance or any other business related field.
  • Full membership of the internationally recognised professional institutions such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICPAU etc.
  • Be able to work with any of the Sun Systems Accounting packages 5.2, 5.3 and or 5.4.
  • Able to work with basic computer software like Ms-office packages.
  • A minimum of Five (5) years post University qualification experience as Project Accountant in a commercial environment with a bias in financial management, contract management and budgeting.
  • Excellent analytical ability, goal oriented and self-driven individual who thrives on taking on responsibility and achieving results both independently and as part of a team.

About USAID FtF Program:
TechnoServe Inc /Uganda in partnership with the Uganda Cooperative Alliances is implementing a Four and half years Feed the Future (FtF) - Producer Organizations Activity (POA in 12 districts of Uganda. The USAID funded Feed the Future Uganda Producer Organizations Activity seeks to strengthen the governance, management and service delivery capacity of producer organizations (POs) to realise durable and enduring institutions that are able to plan, mobilize resources, and deliver services that meet the evolving needs of their members in a rapidly changing competitive environment. The Activity will harness the potential of Uganda's secondary POs in 12 of the feed the future focus districts in Uganda to serve as critical change leaders in equipping member POs with the skills, knowledge, and linkages needed to mature and develop into sustainable businesses that meet the demands of their farmers.

Job Summary:  The Agribusiness Specialist will be a key member of the Program;s leadership team and will be responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight for a team that will be responsible for achieving (1) increased involvement of producer organizations (POs) in business-oriented activities along three main value chains (maize, beans, and coffee); and (2) improved PO governance and management structures that efficiently and effectively provide services responsive to the needs of their members. More specifically, the duties and responsibilities of this position fall into three broad categories: business development services and diagnostics; partnerships; and integration of women and youth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Business Development Services (BDS) and Diagnostics
  • Supervise, develop, and enable a team of four Business Development Services Coordinators; and a variety of short-term technical advisors to achieve the program's results
  • Oversee and ensure the effective and efficient use of various diagnostic tools to evaluate producers’ organizations on a regular and recurring basis
  • Oversee and provide guidance to BDS coordinators on mapping and producer organizations assessment techniques
  • Manage the identification of BDS providers, oversee the development of business cases, and facilitating linkages to producer organizations
  • Ensure that the appropriate BDS services are provided to participating POs
  • Manage effective relationships with BDS service providers
  • Organize business review meetings with producer organizations to share lessons and evaluate progress against business plan milestones.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other implementing partners on the USAID funded Feed the Future project

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the TechnoServe (TNS) Agribusiness Specialist job opportunity should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in agribusiness management, agricultural economics, or other relevant field
