Job Summary:  The Pilot, East Africa will serve full time with its East Africa aviation team to be based in Arua, Uganda.  We currently operate the following aircraft types from our main base in Eldoret, Kenya: DC-3T, King Air 200, and Cessna Grand Caravan. The most important quality we are looking for is a heart to serve the Lord. We want a person who has felt God's leading to use their gifts, skills, and abilities in aviation to reach hurting people in remote parts of the world with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ. Days often begin early and end late, uniforms get dirty loading aircraft, the landing zones and accommodations are rough, and the environment austere. What we do is expeditionary aviation. Why we do it, more than anything else, will determine whether or not you should apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Files flight plans as needed or assigned.
  • Obtains weather data and interprets data based on flight plan.
  • Completes aircraft weight and balances for flights.
  • Loads and unloads passenger's luggage in aircraft.
  • Keeps assigned aircraft charts and software updated.
  • Keeps the aircraft clean, neat, and polished when home and away from the home base including sanitizing the aircraft restroom facilities after each flight.
  • Performs pilot duties as needed or assigned.
  • Assists in the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all SP hangars property.
  • Performs pre-flights, in-flight test, and post-flights as needed to ensure safety of flight.
  • Works with the FAA as assigned.
  • Aircrew should expect to overnight away from home base approximately 35% of the time. Personnel should anticipate many of the locations being austere with few amenities.  Showers, a hot meal, and even a bed may not be available.  Sleeping in the aircraft may at times be required.
  • Be willing and comfortable working in remote environments, with little support structure, often in unstable areas or war zones.
  • When humanitarian crisis arise, it may be necessary to temporarily deploy away from the home base for several weeks, and even up to 30 days at a time.
  • Represents Samaritan’s Purse as a professional when dealing with donors, government officials, and others.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers.
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
  • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Samaritan’s Purse Pilot job placement should hold be a fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of college-level Biblical studies preferred.
  • 2,500 flight hours, 1,000 of which as PIC.
  • FAA Commercial pilot SEL and MEL, Instrument licenses with a 1st Class Medical         
  • 2 years of commercial/for profit aviation experience or military equivalent.
  • 3 years of Management/Leadership and administration experience.
  • 2 years of living and/or working overseas with bush flying experience, desirable.
  • ATP and/or CFI licenses, desirable.
  • This position is able to accommodate a family.

Job Summary: The Operations Assistant – Airport is mainly responsible for performing resettlement operations in compliance with IOM established procedures to ensure orderly and timely movements of refugees and migrants:

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Transmit IOM Travel documents from IOM office to the airport for the migrants departing, or transiting Entebbe.
  • Arrange for USRAP promissory notes and Canadian warrants to be signed prior to departure from Entebbe international airport.
  • Liaise with airlines regarding pre-check-in procedures for IOM groups.
  • Coordinate migrants’ transportations between IOM Transit Centre and Entebbe international airport.
  • Check airline tickets and verify travel documents and migrants’ identities prior to check-in.
  • Arrange check-in of the migrants departing Entebbe international airport assisting with bags, providing ID verification, leading departing migrants through customs and immigration.
  • Tag refugee baggage.
  • Ensure that relevant airport services are accessed for cases with special needs; including medical and unaccompanied minors.
  • Liaise with airlines, immigration, airport authorities on procedures for IOM passengers.
  • Arrange for meals and accommodation as necessary for all IOM passengers in case of delay with departure.
  • Inform Sr. Operations Assistants of any flight changes, cancellations.
  • Confirm departures to Operations Assistants, and provide bag count for transmitting the data to the receiving IOM mission.
  • Assist with arrival formalities to returning migrants at EBB airport and arrange for ground transportation.
  • Report on arriving migrants to Operations Assistants, and IOM sending missions.
  • Reports on the costs incurred by arriving migrants to Operations Assistants and sending IOM missions for proper settlement.
  • Perform any other duties assigned that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Operations Assistant – Airport job opportunity should hold a High School Degree/ Certificate with four years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience in social sciences or related field
  • Diploma in IATA Standard or airline related field.
  • Four years of resettlement or movement experience.
  • Experience working with actors involved in movements: RSC, UNHCR, airport authorities etc.
  • Three years of resettlement or airline experience, such as experience working with actors involved in movements: RSC, UNHCR, airport authorities.
  • Strong practical computer skills, including MS Word, Excel. Proficiency in AMADEUS, and Mimosa. Knowledge of USRAP, Australian, Canadian, and European IOM resettlement procedures.
  • Required IOM functional competencies: effective communicator, successful negotiator, creative and analytical thinker, active learner, team player, and cross cultural facilitator.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply written instructions and guidelines; interpret instructions and resolve work related problems; detect input/output errors; perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions such as heavy workloads and deadlines.

Following the signing of the Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in July 1999 between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and five regional States (Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe) in July 1999, the Security Council established the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) by its resolution 1279 of 30 November 1999, initially to plan for the observation of the ceasefire and disengagement of forces and maintain liaison with all parties to the Ceasefire Agreement. Later in a series of resolutions, the Council expanded the mandate of MONUC to the supervision of the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and assigned multiple related additional tasks.

Job Summary: The Aviation Safety Officer will implement the Mission’s Aviation Safety Program. The incumbent will recommend and implement measures to reduce the level of risk associated with the Mission’s air operations

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify aviation safety hazards
  • Promote safety awareness in the mission
  • Provide support on all Aviation Risk Management issues
  • Carry out quarterly risk assessments for air fields and prepare reports
  • Conduct aviation emergence response plan drills and table top exercises
  • Participate in and provide input for aviation safety council meetings,
  • Monitor the implementation of aviation safety-related policies,

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Aviation Safety Officer job placement should hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Air Transportation, Safety Management, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or Air Traffic Management, or graduation from equivalent military educational establishment.
  • Additional training as a Commercial Pilot, or a Flight Navigator, or an Aeronautical / Maintenance / Flight Engineer, or an Air Traffic Controller, or a Flight Operations Officer, or equal military qualification, is required
  • Training and Certification in Aviation Safety (including aircraft accident and incident investigation) is desirable.
  • A first level university degree with a relevant combination of education in Air Transportation, Safety Management, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or Air Traffic Management, graduation from equivalent military educational establishment, professional training or certification in aviation safety, and two (2) additional years of work experience in air transportation or air traffic control operations, aviation safety or aviation engineering at supervisory level, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in air transportation or air traffic control operations, aviation safety or aviation engineering, with at least two years at supervisory level
  • Accident investigation experience is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge in the technical field of aviation safety and accident prevention and experience in the use of ICAO documentation is desirable.
  • Experience in working in peace keeping or other field operations would be an advantage.
  • Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
