Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics, dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education to health professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with customers to understand vision needs and guide them in selecting eyewear frames and lenses based on prescriptions and lifestyle.
  • Assist customers in trying different frames, advising on style and fit considering facial features and preferences.
  • Explain lens options (e.g., progressive lenses, coatings, UV protection) based on customer needs and budget.
  • Process eyewear orders by accurately inputting prescription details and selecting appropriate frame and lens combinations.
  • Prepare and adjust new eyewear for a comfortable fit.
  • Manage display inventory by maintaining stock levels of frames and lenses, ensuring proper organization and rotation.
  • Perform administrative tasks: answer phone calls, schedule appointments, process payments, and maintain patient records.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Experience in administration and customer service.
  • Knowledge of frame style trends is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales or a related field.
  • Excellent customer service skills: friendly, patient, and helpful interaction with customers.
  • Product knowledge: Basic understanding of optometry, eye anatomy, vision correction principles, and prescription terminology.
  • Attention to detail: Ability to present product features and benefits to encourage sales.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use software for order processing and patient information management.
