Job Title: Network Administration Officer

About US:
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) is a corporate body responsible for regulation of civil aviation in the country. It manages Entebbe International Airport (EIA) and thirteen (13) other upcountry aerodromes. UCAA carries out its work in conformity with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
Job Summary: This position exists to provide Network Administration service to UCAA that results in operational efficiencies and effectiveness and thereby contribute towards the attainment of UCAA’s objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Information Technology Management Processes
- Ensures that the IT Network platform delivers on the business and operational objectives of UCAA
- Works hand-in-hand with IT Systems Administrator in areas of hardware and network to ensure continuous and effective connectivity of the network.
- Maintains UCAA Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) ensuring continuity in their separate connectivity
- Ensures continuity of the networking systems at UCAA through continuous surveillance.
- Ensures continuous surveillance of the physical condition of the network and ensures timely rectification.
- Ensures control, security and stability of UCAA’s LAN
- Carries out activity logging to monitor LAN’s performance.
- Ensures physical security of LAN by monitoring network infrastructure and reporting any tampering.
Customer Satisfaction
- Understands the needs of the both the customers and offers IT solutions to resolve these needs
- Reviews the customers’ needs and integrates them with best practice and development and trends in the IT industry
- Puts in place a process of resolving IT problems within the agreed time specifications
- Ensures that upgrades are effected timeously to enhance effectiveness
Carries out any other lawful assignment allocated by the immediate Supervisor.
- The jobholder is cooperative and readily responds to any ad hoc tasks assigned to him/her.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An honours Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering OR
- Any honours Bachelor’s degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science.
- AGE: From 25 to 40 years.
Desirable Requirements
- Certification in Network Administration is an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 3 years’ relevant work experience with working I knowledge of the following:-
- Structured cabling and termination for both copper and fibre.
- Installation and configuration of network active elements including hubs, switches, modems, and routers.
- Network security administration.
- Performance monitoring and tuning of the LAN and WAN.
- Installation and configuration of PABX and other communication equipment.
- Configuration of physical security and control measures.
- Configuration of internet and distributed systems.
