Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator to join our team and support our data management needs, ensuring our systems run efficiently and securely.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Database Architecture Design: Develop and implement comprehensive database architectures that meet the needs of our agroforestry projects, including data related to land management, crop performance, environmental impact, and research data.
- Data Strategy and Governance: Establish data governance policies and best practices to ensure data quality, consistency, and security. Define data management strategies and standards to support organizational objectives.
- Database Management: Oversee the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of database systems. Ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of databases.
- Integration and Optimization: Design and implement data integration solutions to connect databases with other systems and applications used in agroforestry operations. Optimize database performance and ensure efficient data retrieval and storage.
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage database-related projects, including the development of new databases, system upgrades, and data migrations. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive information. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards.
- Support and Training: Provide guidance and support to database administrators and other IT staff. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance team knowledge and skills in database management.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Work with data analysts and scientists to support the development of analytical tools and reporting solutions. Facilitate the extraction and interpretation of data to inform decision-making processes.
- Innovation and Research: Stay updated with the latest developments in database technologies and methodologies. Explore new tools and techniques to enhance our database capabilities and support innovative agroforestry practices.
- Database Management: Design, develop, and maintain database systems to support the firm’s operational needs, including data related to land management, crop yields, and environmental impact assessments.
- Data Security: Implement and manage security measures to safeguard sensitive data. Regularly review and update security protocols to protect against data breaches and unauthorized access.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize database configurations for efficiency. Ensure high availability and reliability of databases.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery plans to prevent data loss. Regularly test backup processes and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity.
- Data Integration: Work with other IT and data teams to integrate databases with external systems and applications used in agroforestry operations. Ensure seamless data flow and accuracy across platforms.
- User Support: Provide support to end-users, including troubleshooting database-related issues and offering guidance on best practices for data entry and management.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database structures, processes, and configurations. Create and update user manuals and training materials as needed.
- Compliance: Ensure that database management practices comply with relevant regulations and standards, including data protection and privacy laws.
- Collaboration: Work closely with agronomists, environmental scientists, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide database solutions that support their work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Software engineering. A Master’s degree will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software development & implementation
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and DevOps practices.
- Strong understanding of database systems (SQL and NoSQL databases).

- Ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
