The West Nile Rural Electrification Company Limited (WENRECo) is an Electric Energy Generation, Distribution & Sales company in the West Nile sub- region, in Northern Uganda. WENRECo is a subsidiary of Industrial Promotion Services (IPS), the industrial development arm of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).
WENRECo operates a Vertically Integrated off-grid utility involved in generation, distribution, and Sale of Electricity in the West Nile districts of Uganda & was the first off-grid Solution under a Public Private Partnership to qualify for World Bank Carbon Financing reliable and affordable hydro Power Generated from the 3.5MW Nyagak I Mini Hydropower plant has strengthened the West Nile region’s economy in Uganda within sub-Saharan Africa.
Job Summary: The Graduate Trainee – Protection, Control & SCADA will ensure safe operation and operational planning of the electrical distribution network, maintenance of network protection, Control and SCADA systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate network control operations including preparing and implementing switching and outage schedules.
- Facilitate and coordinate resolution of network faults on both medium and low voltage networks, including booking, issuing, and managing consumables for faults resolution.
- Performing protection coordination reviews and relay settings for effective MV network operation.
- Configure and administer network SCADA system.
- Participate in site acceptance inspection, testing, and commissioning of network protection and SCADA equipment.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of network protection and SCADA equipment, including but not limited to battery systems, auxiliary supplies, control circuits, relays, IEDs, switchgear, RTUs, among others.
- Liaise with network construction and maintenance teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate network construction and maintenance activities including staging and granting outages.
- Plan and prepare staff shift schedules for network control and faults teams.
- Prepare routine network operation reports.
- Any other duties as maybe delegated by the supervisor.
