The organization aims to empower citizens to use technology in a safe, secure, and effective manner while holding public and private entities accountable for digital rights violations.

 

Job Summary:   Unwanted Witness is seeking a highly motivated and skilled IT Officer to join our dynamic team dedicated to protecting digital rights and advocating for online freedom. The IT Officer will play a pivotal role in managing our website profiles, conducting research alongside our team, and overseeing internal IT needs critical to the organization’s functioning.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Website Management:

  • Manage and maintain Unwanted Witness website profiles, ensuring up-to-date content, functionality, and user experience.
  • Implement improvements and updates to the website as needed, collaborating with the communications team to align with organizational goals.
  • Monitor website performance, security, and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise promptly.

Research Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the research team on projects related to digital rights, online privacy, and freedom of expression.
  • Provide technical expertise and support in data analysis, information gathering, and research methodologies

Internal Oversight:

  • Manage the organization’s internal IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Address technical issues, provide support to staff, and ensure efficient operation of hardware and software. Develop and maintain IT policies and procedures to enhance security, efficiency, and compliance within the organization.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT strategies with organizational goals.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Train staff on IT tools and best practices to enhance digital efficiency.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications would be a plus.
  • Proven experience (2 years) in website management, IT administration, and cybersecurity.
  • Strong knowledge of web development languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc.), and SEO principles.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in conducting research or collaborating with research teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Knowledge of digital rights, privacy issues, and online advocacy is a plus
